So I went thrifting today...& found ponies.
« on: June 21, 2013, 05:05:55 PM »
However, they were a lot of G3* (fixing my mistake here) ponies and some falsies  it was a rather decent size lot for a little over $3.00, but I couldn't bring myself to buy them. I am not too familiar with how these ponies are selling and what they are going for (the G3 ponies that is). I am only interested in collecting the G1 ponies. I guess this is my list of questions:

- How popular are G3s among MLP collectors?
- Approximately how much do G3s go for?
- Would any MLP collectors trade a G3 pony for a G1 pony?

I would like to first see what you all have to say. I know it's only $3.00, but $3.00 could buy me 3 G1 ponies down the road...and I definitely don't want to be stuck with G3 ponies. I know that I could have made a profit off that bag but I don't know...I just want to do some research first.

Honestly, I would have bought them if I could have traded them for G1 ponies that collectors had extra of or ponies they just didn't want anymore. From what I could tell, they were in pretty good condition. I might just have to make a trip back to the store in the morning to see if they are still there.

I think a lot of people are interested in g4s, though I can't say that I'm one of them. I agree with Story, they do seem to go quickly on ebay

Some g3s are worth a bit of money, but the majority aren't worth much unfortunately and sell for about $5 or less loose. They're still pretty plentiful second hand so demand for them isn't super high. As a primarily g1 collector I do like them, but not enough to seek them out here on the arena. But that's just me! That being said if you found a rare or sought after g3 you could probably get someone to trade you a g1 for it! Here's a great list of g3s not to pass up:

(I would also add the unicorns to this list as there was only one set of them)

I'd agree that most g3s aren't worth very much.  Most are worth around $3-$5, with there being a few rare ones and some semi-rare ones (like birth flowers and holiday ponies.). However, they're still pretty popular and a lot of members collect them.  Depending on what ponies were in the lit, I probably would've bought them.  :)

Some collectors will trade a g3 for a g1 (I have done so,) it just depends what they're looking for.  :)

I would have gotten them.  You could have saved them to trade them at a fair or meet or here.  If they were in bad condition you could try to restore them and sell them or make customs out of them if you are good at that.

I am in a similar position.  All I ever find at garage sales/ thrift stores are G3s.  I buy them because they are kinda cute and I know others like them.  They aren't my favorite and I would LOVE to trade them for G1s and G4s.
