And Spike's not even a pony (neither was Discord, but I'm pretty sure he can morph into one? :s)

Because, as I explained before, people could nominate any character from any MLP franchise, whether pony or not.  Spike got enough nominations to make it in the race.

I have never seen that Dr Hooves pony. Is he real or a custom?

That one was created by the ever-talented Tiella.

I like Luna a lot but it's kinda obvious that I love Fluttershy more.

I nominated Spike! But he's running against Fluttershy so I didn't vote for him. Poor Spike, he is such an awesome character.
