Storage Help
« on: June 07, 2013, 09:33:08 AM »
I have posted here about a move change. I am going to be living in Florida for a time period and then living the rest of my life on a Sail Boat. Very excited! I only can take so much of my collection with me. But the few ponies I am looking at I have a few questions on.

I have a near mint So Soft Surprise. She is WHITE! super soft and thick. She has just a brown dot on her chest that has not changed since I got her 3 years ago. No other added spots.  The storage container is going to be tub like. It will be sealed in case of water...but from time to time I will pull out and play with these ponies.

Will that destroy her flocking? Could the humidity turn her yellow or if she got wet would that ruin her? Any special things I could do to preserve her? On a boat she will be moving about so could that damage the amazing flocking she has?

I ask because I would rather trade her to a collector if there was a chance I could damage her. I am not a picky collector by any means so a So soft Surprise that has a few flaws would be fine or even a non so soft would be ok:)

Second question. What should I do with my factory curl ponies. I found Molasses by chance with these curls, and Ringlets is mine from childhood. I loved her and played with her so delicately that most of the time she stayed on the shelf. That is why her tail is so pink:)

What would be a good way to store them? I will not part with Ringlets as she is a cherished childhood pony but Molasses might be up for trade if I am at risk of destroying factory curls. I have pictures of them and the G3 pony has similar hair:)

The container will be dark in color but but have a protective barrier around the ponies so no color from the container can bleed on to them.  I have a feeling they will also be stored in a dark place as well.

Any suggestions are welcome:)

Thanks:)

For any sealed ponies who have the danger of humidity.. try silica gel packets!! You can get them on E-bay :)

For the curls you can either do like I do and spritz them down with some light hairspray (I don't mind and it always makes the curls so flawless, but not everyone likes it) or if they are going to be flattened under other ponies, but a marker tube or something similar inside the curls to stop them from flattening.

I am so excited for you man!! Your new place sounds absolutely incredible!

I think the advise I and others gave in your last thread pretty much covered any worries you would have with these girls. I am sure if you are storing them in a plastic container they will not be too different from any other items you have on your boat which you dont want to get wet - i.e. electrical items, paperwork, etc - and they will survive their life at sea relatively unscathed and unsoggy :P.

Gel packs and ensuring the plastic is protected from any thing which could stain it but still able to breath are your best bets.

If Surprise is knocked around then yes she could loose flocking as it tends to rub off quite easily but I would think if she is packed safely in a container and even in some bubble wrap she should be ok. As for the factory curl girls again, its just a matter of carefully wrapping them and making sure there is nothing pressing down on their curls - although it is inevitable they may loose a little of their curl, or have it a little flattened over time.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
