What computer imaging program do you use?
« on: June 06, 2013, 10:09:56 AM »
What computer imaging program do you use?  That's my question.

You see, I have a version of photoshop.  It's an older version but it works for what little I use it for (would love a newer version but it's too expensive so vs 6 it is).  Well I have a little problem.  Some files on my computer got corrupted somehow and he had to back up the computer and reformate it or something like that.  Can't find my Photoshop disk at the moment and I don't want to use my older vs 5.5, which is so much worse then even my old vs 6 is.

Anybody know any free (and legal) programs out there to use so I can again resize my pictures so I can upload them on Photobucket again?

I'll have to hold off on "trying" to recolor a drawing for Shenanigan's birthday contest until I find my disk but I want to at least be able to resize other pictures I have until then. :)

Do you use a computer imaging program?  Or does anybody just use Photobucket to edit?  How easy is it to do that?  I'm just so used to picking my dpi size and photo size that I don't know how to do it anyother way! lol (my camera makes the photos like 30 inches but or something....nnneeeeddd to make them smaller.. lol).

Photobucket all the way for me :)  Its kind of mandatory though, I use it for alot more then imaging.

I hear gimp will work fine though, and its free last time I heard.  It I think also supports layers :)

PS CS6 is all I use.  You can get GIMP for free and it works just fine for resizing, though.

At my college they have the latest versions of Photoshop and Illustrator (I prefer Illustrator but that's because I have learned I'd rather make vectors) but before I used GIMP. Unfortunately GIMP is more like Photoshop than Illustrator so I need to find a good Illustrator substitute too now.

Gimp, definitely. It's about as robust as Photoshop but more simplified. And it's free.

Photoshop, but there are wonderful free image programs online that require no downloads and work like it!

http://pixlr.com/

And here are several that are free and open source. I've used Gimp before at my work and liked it.

I've never used Gimp, but lots of great reviews on it. I have a "free" :lookround: copy of Paint Shop Pro 7 that I use (even have installed it at work).

I use paint tool Sai it was like.. 60 bucks lol but before that I used a free version of it, and Adobe for a while had an ..oops where they accidentally released their old versions of Photoshop and what not for free. I think it wasn't fixed since it would have looked bad but I'm not sure anymore.

I recently downloaded FireAlpaca which has received some good feedback and works especially well on laptops. Haven't tried it myself yet, but it might be worth checking out. It's free too!

And you can laugh as much as you want, but the program I've used the most has actually been the older version of MS Paint. Yes, it's very limited, but with good tutorials and some patience nice stuff can be created.

I have CS5 and use photoshop and indesign quite a bit. I never really got the hang of illustrator though  It would be nice to learn how to use it!

I've heard a lot of good things about GIMP :) Before I got cs5 (for school! Yay!) I used Paint Shop Pro 6. It worked pretty well for what I needed it for!

I've tried to use Gimp and Inkscape, but neither of them work on my computer. (Silly Macs!)

Sketchbook Pro is pretty cool if you have a tablet. I believe you can get it for free if you register with a student email address, or if it's for personal use? Been a while.

I use Photoshop CS6 pretty exclusively, but you really can't beat the older versions of MS Paint C:
