Cleaning ultra cuddle fleece?
« on: June 05, 2013, 06:23:58 PM »
My boyfriend has a Fluttershy plushie that he has had for about 2 years. Poor Flutterbug is now quite dirty. We don't want tot risk putting her in te washing machine because she is hand made and cost a pretty penny. Is there a way to getting get looking pretty again?

I'd start by using a dust buster over her, that should get a lot of the dust/dirt off. Then a lightly damp cloth to rub over any spots.

There are some great carpet cleaning products that don't need water if she has any stains, but I'd be wary of using them as it could damage the material. I'd test it in a hidden spot first, and only use products as a last resort.

Ask the person who created it how best to wash it!  :)

We've actually tried contacting the maker, but she has never replied:(
And I should say, poor plushie is pretty filthy.

The fursuit Livejournal community has great advice for cleaning all kinds of fabrics, and fleece is a popular one.

I've cleaned all my G1 plushies with Auto Glym interior shampoo, meant for cars. (http://www.autoglym.com/products/products/interior-shampoo) I believe its a worldwide product, but if it isnt, im sure you have something similar over there.  Its really easy and has worked even on the most filthiest plushies.

Unfortunately if she is a hand made plush, the advice could be very different from a standard mass produced item which will have a little more wear to it.

I agree that I would wash her warily and using damp cloths rather than actually getting her wet and using products. Elbow grease and even a baby wipe can shift a lot of dirt.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
