well, the problem is that a cosplay is still an outfit, and the better the quality and details are the more you have to spend, linke on an everyday outfit. ;)  i don´t know how much you paid, but you are always better of if you sew it yourself, then you are the quality control. ;)
that is quite time consuming indeed! but have you thought about an alternate version? you can see her official costume on conventions very often, so alternates can be cheaper and more interesting. ;)

for example, a friend once found some art of her in a white dress and cosplayed that, maybe you can go for something like this?
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2699/vocaloidmiku.jpg - the coverart
her cosplay:

http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/227/4/e/mirrorme_by_visufreak-d46lk5e.jpg

so, you have many possibillities for vocaloids! i bet there are galleries in the net about alternate outfits, you canalso find some in the music videos like in "melt" for example. ;)

Probably should check your wardrobe if you haven't. You might be surprised what you can figure out and it won't cost a thing.

Wardobe check first, but maybe go like emuel said and see if there's an alternative outfit you could work with?

yes, you can easily make a wardrobe cosplay out of an alternate costume. but i would highly suggest and check for them first, at least for the color shees and styles. i´ve seen many wardrobe cosplays with clothes that didn´t fit into the style of the character. with looking on many outfits you get a feeling of it. my friend did wardrobe cosplay too, just inspired by the colorblocking of the original artwork.
but whatever you do, be sure to post pictures afterwards! miku is very cool, i love her hair. ^^

I..actually cosplayed as her.  Well, I meant to but ended up getting sick, but thats another matter entirely.

value Village is your best friend.  I found fabric from clothing I needed there and I just cut it apart and used it.

Made her tie from scratch (SO proud of that) and used the extra fabric for the lace bits on her skirt and top.

I found that if youget a mans shirt and invert the sleeves, they make great miku sleeves...you just need to modify them.

The control panal is fun to do if you are creative >>  And the headset (mine lit up, I love mt BF for that!) was a pain in the behind!  But totally doable :)

Best of luck!

It'd be possible without sewing, but you would have to stalk thrift shops like mad from now til then. I'm still not sure you'd be able to find the skirt and stockings there, you'd probably at least have to sew the turquoise streak onto the pleated skirt. Fortunately, thigh-high stockings aren't hard to find online for fairly cheap.

...wait, are those boots? It's hard to tell on google images. If so, stockings and plain black slip-ons might give you the same effect.

i would higly suggest not choosing this skirt. a pleated skirt in matte fabric is faar better. unless your directly want to go for a complete leather outfit, do you mean that?
leather is one of these materials, is you use it once in your cosplay/outfit, use is on another part too. like, if you want to use faux leather for the glove-thing. (whicht you could sew by hand)

you cango to thrift shopsand find pleated skirts that are cheaper than this but have a more quality look. if you have trouble finding tigh high stockings, get tights and cut them off very high. fold the end over, sometimes it holds like that, sometimes you need to hand sew the hem.
is this helpful for you at all?

Yup, I corroborate first looking through your own wardrobe, and then hitting the thrift store!
