cutie marks
« on: June 01, 2013, 06:24:26 PM »
What do you do about missing/messed up cutie marks on G1s? I'm trying to clean up what I have to sell and I'm not sure if I should try to restore the cutie marks or not? is that dishonest? I have a glory that is missing an entire star almost on one side but is in great condition other wise, with maybe some touching up to an eye  :what:

If the pony is in fair condition then you can restore the symbol.  ^.^

Many people agree that on G1s to be a custom bait the pony should be beyond repairing  like mayor rubs on eyes symbols, mohawks on the hair, cancer, regrind and things like that.

Ah and in G1, G2 and G3 cutie marks are called symbols  ;)

Restoring the symbols on an otherwise good-condition pony is fine, as long as you clarify that the symbols or eyes are not "original" and have been restored if you ever plan on selling.

I'd leave it up to the buyer personally, and just leave them as-is. Or if you do touch them up, make sure you state it in the description.

I agree.  I would rather do that myself or even just leave it.  Symbol rubs don't bother me very much.  I kind of expect to see that on a G1.

It's really difficult to repair G1 symbols well enough that it doesn't end up detracting from their value.  Unless you're keeping the pony forever for yourself and are confident in your freehand painting skills, I wouldn't recommend it.

If you're going to sell them anyway, I'd kind of leave it up to the buyer to restore the symbols if they so choose. But that's just me. ;) I would prefer to do my own restoration on my personal collection.

For selling, I agree with leaving it to the buyer. You can always offer them the option of selling the pony a little higher in price if they wish you to restore the symbol.

I keep as is. :) I don't really mind rubs to symbols, I think they add character.

But if I'm selling, I also keep it as is. That way the buyer can make the decision. I probably wouldn't want to buy anything touched up, because I can get picky about it being flawless.

you guys made good points I probably won't touch them up then. I just wasn't sure what a buyer would want. :)

Keep as is :) That's what I would do - if the pony is in good condition otherwise she will still hold her value good enough I think. And leave it up to the buyer to restore her symbol or not. Some buyers do not like restorations and actually feel that a restoration in itself devalue the pony...

My daughter calls them all cutie marks also. I have had to remind her a few times. LOL She is so cute :)

If the pony is not that bad then yes and if its hard to find then yes also!

I recently received a baby Bowtie with a touched up symbol and it really bothers me. I would have preferred her with a symbol rub. I do customs and still would not touch up a G1, I think it detracts from them personally. :)

Yeah, I'd leave it alone and leave it up to the buyer.  :)
