fake tattoos for cutie marks
« on: May 21, 2013, 05:55:56 PM »
Hi Ponies! :art:
Has anyone tried buying printable tattoo paper to use for decorating ponies? I tried a fake tattoo I already had and it seems like it would work well. Not sure what brand to buy, any ideas?  :what:

It's thicker than normal temp tattoos so it really doesn't lay as nicely.  If you cut it really close it would probably be ok but it does noticeably stick up a bit.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

it's good to experiment.
however, if you're going to try to sell your customs I will point out that people do not generally want to buy customs made with fake tattoos

Some of them I read were thicker, I didn't know all were
Not making to sell, just because these are the only versions of, say, Rapunzel I will ever have =). Already made Sweet Scoops and am partway through Mommy and Baby pony, but am at the symbols . . .

In my experience, rub-on transfers and tattoos tend to not lay properly, and tend to not stick to the pony. I've had issues with them not coming off the transfer papers as well. Personally, I'd skip them. :(
My creativity keeps running into a lack of time and resources.
I'm also available via twitter at @Kazzellin :)

So many projects!! What do I want to work on? :awake:

I have some 'temporary tattoo' that turned out  to be water slide decals for nails. So just be careful when picking out "temp tattoo" paper cause some places it means different then others. I tried them anyways and was disappointed to find that I couldn't get them on at all. They simply slide right off the pony. I wasn't planning to use them as the actual symbol but as an underline and then paint over them (I need more practice using tracing paper) not sure how it would have turned out. I might still do more experimenting cause some of the ink comes off on the pony and I might be able to use that as a stencil.

I have made a few ponies using temp tattoo's! They have worked beautifully but you have to be patient and always helps to have a few extra's on hand of the same tattoo just in case it messes up. I personally only work with G3's and what I find helps a lot is heating the rump of the pony with a hair dryer so it softens the plastic and makes it easier to work with. I guess the hair dryer method might not work if you do a full body repaint but if you use dye like I do it works like a dream!!!!!

I tried once, but didn't have the patience to get it to lay right.  I've also heard they yellow over time.
I like waterslide decals for G4 eyes, they look much cleaner than my shaky painting skills produce.
You can easily make your own stencils if you have an inkjet printer though.

LOVE that froggie pony!!!!!  I've used the temp tattoos on G3s that I have not painted.  Sealed them well, no yellowing so far.  Fingers crossed...
