How long is long enough to wait for payment?

I've been waiting over a week for payment for a non-pony ebay item.  I have tried to contact the buyer via ebay messages and she has not given me any sort of response as to when/whether she intends to pay...I'd like to offer the item as a second chance offer but am worried that as soon as I submit the offer, that's when I'll get payment or hear something from the original buyer.  How long should I wait?

Technically, on eBay you only have to wait four days before you can file a non paying bidder report.

I personally wait 4-7 days, and if the buyer flakes out I set up an 'open case'.

They changed this to two days recently.

Personally, I file an unpaid item report if it isnt paid for within those 2 days. That gives them an extra 4 days to pay. Then ebay refunds my fees and I can do a second chance offer or relist it.

This!! I recently changed my settings to automatically start a non-paying case after 2 days. I've found that if a buyer hasn't paid within 48 hours, 90% of the time they never do pay. The amount of non-paying bidders I've had in the last year is unbelievably frustrating.

If your buyer has not paid after a week, I think it's best to open a case.

I knew they were going to change it but I didn't realize they already had. Last time I had tried to file a case after three days eBay said it was too soon so I figured it hadn't happened yet.

You can open a case after only a few days on ebay now, but personally I normally give it 5 days (as stated in my listings),  and then I send messages /invoice .  I like to give the person a bit more of a chance I guess... but  If there is still no payment or response within 7 days  then I open a  NPB case

I opened a NPB case this afternoon (it's now been 8 days) so we'll see what happens.  She has only a couple of feedbacks but it looks like she'd purchased things from other people even after this transaction ended :-(

Updated:  buyer finally paid 3 days into open unpaid item case.

I am glad you finally received payment. Sorry you had to go through the trouble though.
