How to take apart a standard sea pony shell?
« on: May 18, 2013, 12:53:12 PM »
Hi!
I'm having problems getting this darned thing apart, and I need some image instructions or very clear, concise written instructions. Please! Please can you help? I asked someone about a commission and they want the shell, but I am really concerned it will cost a lot to post, and it is even worse not taken apart. I want to trade with them, but I cannot afford to post it like this plus other items as they won't fit into anything but a box!

Please help!

I'm sorry I can't be of any help, but I'm grabbing onto the coattails of this post because I've been wondering the same thing.  I recently sent one in the mail to a friend; thankfully, I was sending other things as well, so it didn't matter as much that I couldn't figure out how to break apart the shell.  I have another one and have tried gently pulling it apart but don't want to risk breaking it.

They came sold together, so the weren't meant to be taken apart.

Honestly, I think it would be damaged if you were to try and separate it. Mine look like they are glued together.

Personally I would not take them apart as you do risk damaging them.

However yes if you are determined they can be taken apart if you absolutely have to. They simply slide apart into 2 parts where the base and the back meet but some of them are very very stubborn and may not come apart without some strength, which of course risks breaking them.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I've done it, it can be done, but like Hathorcat says, sometimes it's not easy.  The last time I separated it was really hard to do though I was as gentle as I could be.  I also tried prying the area where they connected to allow more room for them to separate but I was careful to use something that would not scratch or cut the plastic.  Good luck.
Thank you to SquarePeg for my beautiful avi.

I would be too scared to take it apart! I had an action figure that had removable hands that you could trade out and I took his hands out (trying to be gentle) and they both broke :( Be very careful if you try :)

I honestly wouldn't risk breaking it by trying to force it apart... they weren't meant to separate!
