had a jumping lesson yesterday, now i ache all over

i decided to book a jumping lesson with a local instructor as me and my horse fail at showjumping. i get tense which means he gets tense and it all goes to pot. i explained this to the instructor so she decided to keep all jumps under 2 foot 6 inch so that we could jump from walk if anything went wrong.
it mostly went well, had a couple of 'hairy' moments and i shall definitely be doing it again next month

When I first started jumping, my instructor made me learn bareback.  Ouchies!

Even though you had a few scary moments, it looks like you and your horse had a great time.  Glad you had the opportunity!

Keep up the good work, you're doing really well!

When I first started, I was taught to put a knot in my reins, and I had to hold them at the buckle and hold a neck rope or my breastplate (if I had it on) if I got unbalanced... it helped my balance, and my confidence heaps! I have really bad balance now because of my ear infections and such, so when I train I still go back to this sometimes. It does help if the horse doesn't mind jumping though, and it looks like your baby is a bit naughty in that regard! I know how hard that is... I once had three instructors pushing my horse over a small 1 foot step rail - because it was orange. grrr!

Oh I feel your pain - I had double cross country on Thursday just gone and I ache all over! Still! But it was my first time on a XC course so its almost to be expected :)

Your horse is absolutely gorgeous! He looks like he's got alot of scope, and a fantastic jump!

thanks, he competed BSJA and BE90 while he was out on loan (I got pregnant so he went to a friend for 2 year)

now i have 2 kids but im hoping to take him out unaffiliated this year then onto bigger things next year

From the pictures, I can see that your horse loves this (kangaroo style and fake scare) but you are more scared of it, either the feeling or your horse reaction, I'm not sure.
You're always quite far behind him in his jumps and that might trigger his bigger jumps too. Your instructor was very clever to listen to your worries and put you on "little" jumps. I think you should stay on these for a little while until you get the feeling and trust your horse more, he'll get you over these bars!

I hope you won't take my advice badly, I really mean good and I appreciate your pics even more as I see your horse has a free mouth, so at least if you make a little hand mistake you're not pulling his teeth out ;)
I'd love to see you goover your worries and improve with your big boy.
