Another sad ebay story
« on: May 14, 2013, 03:53:03 PM »
I bought this gorgeous Birthflower on ebay from seller adoptadoll. She arrived in a Priority box with "Priority" printed all over the inside. The pony had NO packing, and she arrived stained. Very sad because her condition would've been perfect otherwise.
I told her about it and sent her this photo so she could see for herself.

The pony was originally $20 + $5.50 shipping. I was the only bidder. I thought it was worth it to get one that is NM.
She answered that I could return it for a refund, or get a $5 partial refund. I assume she is not going to pay my shipping back to her since I mentioned that and she said nothing about it. I can't decide what to do. Lose the money on shipping to send it back to her (Sure, it's not much, but still I think it is just unfair), or put in the effort of trying to clean and sunfade her? --when a pony with these marks would most likely not go for that price when you have no guarantees that you can get the marks off? I wouldn't have bought it with marks for $15.

Sigh, if only she had wrapped it in one paper towel or something!

Sorry to hear about that. I wish people would learn how to wrap up a pony.

Have you tried a magic eraser yet? Sometimes when it is fresh it will come off.

Ugh! Some eBay sellers just kill me because they just don't know how to ship items! I'm sorry this happened! I would send her back and eat the shipping. Send her back in a bubble envelope first class for less than $3.

Aw man, that's too bad. She could be a lovely pony! Second himmie, try a magic eraser, sometimes it works. You'd think it would be common knowledge to wrap or bag a collectable.

EEEK!  You can PM me the name of the seller - that is totally not okay!  Sunfading should get it out though!

Ironically, it would have been cheaper and safer to send the pony in an envelop that doesn't have print on the inside :-(

That's awful that a perfectly gorgeous pony was ruined due to improper packaging

I will fourth the idea on trying a Magic Eraser but if that does not work, I then think it is totally up to you on how you want to handle it. Just beware that your seller is not obligated to refund your return shipping. That is the catch on returning things. Although if she were a decent seller and the problem was caused by her carelessness she should pay for the return postage. But that is just how I feel about it.

If you do not feel that a $5 partial is worth your time and effort then what do you feel would be fair? I only ask because perhaps the two of you can come to an agreement on another amount before the return process begins.

Thanks for your responses, everyone! I think I will send her back. I haven't tried the Magic Eraser, but I feel I should send her back exactly the way she arrived if I am going to return her. If I make the stain look better but it is still there, I'll have to return her anyway and the seller won't see the worst of what her mistake caused to the poor pony and she will probably think I am complaining over nothing. The stain looks pretty soaked in to me anyway.

Ponylady, I do wish the seller had at least asked me what I thought was a fair partial refund!

I know  it would probably make all this a bit easier on you than having to return it.

I asked her for the address to return to and she was more apologetic in her next message, which I appreciate. Hopefully she has learned about shipping ponies and she won't make that mistake again! She did say in this message she would refund shipping, not sure if she only meant the original shipping though. Anyway, I am satisfied.

Glad to hear this was resolved! So sorry that the seller put her in that box with no packing! How sad... at least an old "Walmart" plastic bag around her would've been enough to save her from the ink on the box...
Silly USPS trying to make sure we can't turn their boxes inside out, now they cause ponies to get damaged by their inside printing... (not USPS's fault obviously, the seller should've wrapped it, but still... if USPS wasn't so concerned about us using Priority boxes for non priority shipping... this might've all been avoided even with terrible packing practices!)

All I can say is I hope that you've at least educated that seller so in the future they won't be sending collectibles out without any protection or wrapping around them!

I seriously agree that people who sell items off of ebay really need to learn how to package their items. A white pony on top of blue and red ink printing! Uggh.  >_< Another huge gripe I have with ebay sellers is the shipping charges. I hate overpaying on shipping when I know how much it costs to mail 1 pony or 2 with in the USA.

Sorry about your pony, I would not be happy either :( Hopefully you get things figured out.

All it would have taken is a ziplock baggy to protect her from that awful priority box! Ugh! Shame on that seller!

I'm so happy you are getting your shipping back.

While the seller should have been more apologetic to begin with, I think sometimes people need to have the mistake sink in. After some time passed she probably realized that she really did make a mistake and felt better about fully reimbursing you.
