What the- Is her head plug glued in?!
« on: May 09, 2013, 09:40:57 PM »
I've got a bait Princess Misty here with me. I've spent a while tonight carefully cutting and tugging at her neck so as to get it off without cutting through the neck plug. I've got her head and body separated all the war around, but, erm... It looks like her neck plug is glued into her!! Were ponies ever made with the plug glued to the inside of the body? I've opened a Princess Tiffany before, and her neck was normal. This girl's plug, rather than being larger than the neck hole, fits right into the hole and is glued in... Is this making sense? I've just never seen this before. :0

Don't quote me on this, but I think they originally had glue that weakened over time? When I get one like that I slide needle nose pliers in a weak spot and pull.

I have had a few where it seems as though there is actual "body material" sealing all the around. After the glue is gone and you can separate the neck, it will not actually pop out. I managed to get two of the three free without cutting, the other got its neck plug cut off because I was mad. Hot water, a little twisting and some prying, like with a car trim removal tool is what I used. Heh.

Aw dangit, I was totally wrong... Guess who just cut all the way around the normal plug? It looked like the skinny part of the neck plug was sealed to the rim of the body, but it really was just strong strong glue... I feel dumb now. I'm glad this wasn't meant to be an upgrade or anything. :(

Dont worry about it  Its easy to do something like that and I am sure we have all done something similar at some point in our collecting history - I have a Honeycomb with a slasher movie mark on her neck line from the days before I knew using a knife to remove a pony head was not a good plan! For the future, yes its possible for the glue to seep but more often than not its just a tighter plug [perhaps the plastic is a little warped] and gentle [or firm :P] tugging may be required.

I am sure she will still look lovely on display.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Snapped a few pictures. Misty is so embarrassed she didn't want the camera to focus.

Photos are a little grainy, but maybe you guys can see what I was seeing? Before I cut her head out it all just looked like one continuous piece of pony.

Still really glad she's just a fun restore pony, and that I already have a Misty with good eyes and symbols and hair.  :whew:

The more you live the more you learn.  :) I was really gobsmacked the first time I had a head removal operation like that, so you're not the only one. :D Next time you'll know better. *wanders off to remove the head of a tail-rusted Beach Ball and hopes for no new surprises*

I don't think you did a terrible job - just sand the plug and it should fit better.  :)  But yeah, there is a bit of glue.  That's why we always say HOT HOT HOT water - it weakens the glue's bond.

I will tell you I had one heck of a time getting the head off BBE  baby sleepy pie, how much glue was used on her is beyond my guess. It took me 20 min to get the head off cleanly, and her body sunfaded nicely so I am super happy.
