Children of the 80's - remember these?
« on: April 17, 2013, 02:34:00 AM »
What are these things called? I used to get them from a fleamarket that had at Aquaduct Race Track in Queens when I was a kid. I had so many of them but they are all gone now

Oh, gosh, yeah, I had some of these charms!
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

Me too...and I knew the name too but can't remember now. Ill keep thinking.  It was something pretty obvious like "chain charms".

Searching for Vintage plastic Bell Charms seems to bring them up.  They might not have had another name.  I also found that they are by Russ.

WHOAH! I was just thinking about those! Charm necklaces! I had a yellow skeleton charm with fake diamond eyes that I LOVED when I was a kid!

I love that that whistle has Doraemon on it. I would have killed for that charm!

I think they are just charms-  I do remember them.

Recently, I discovered that some of them are highly highly collectible!

If I remember right, they were sold in vending machines and so that is why I don't think they had an official name.

I had a tennis racket, baseball bat, a cat, a fish, a baby bottle, and a few others I think.  Plus the chain.  Or maybe I won a few at the roller skate rink?  I think they were prizes there for tickets you hand in.  I don't remember how I won those tickets.  Certainly not for my skating abilities.

The vending machine explains why I had tennis rackets and baseball bats.  I would never have picked those things out myself.  Bleh.  I was more into cats and fish and other animals.

I got mine at the swap meet (flea market)

A friend of mine in Canada collects them like crazy, so I mail them to her when I find them in the thrift store (which is pretty frequently).  I can't tell the difference between the collectible ones and the cheap ones, but it is fun to look at them and somewhat astonishing to me that they have value :D

Wow, I had some of those too, or my cousins did and gave me some.  I can't remember which.  I especially remember the whistle.
