Just saw on the news 2 bombs were exploded at Boston Marathon. Apparently effect could be felt for miles. Many injured..

If you're in Boston, please check in so we know you're okay!

They still haven't confirmed they were bombs. Right now they're still saying "explosions".


Edit: They just confirmed they were bombs. I was hoping it was a freak accident. I didn't really think it would be with the location, time, etc... but still

I hope any Boston ponies and anyone anyone here knows who is in Boston is okay. This is so terrible.

My brother lives about a mile from the finish line. Got an email that he's ok, but there's no cell phone service in the area... probably due to all the people trying to get in touch with family & friends. I hope everyone in the area is as safe as they can be during this chaos!

According to ABC news:

4:48 pm ET: Massachusetts authorities confirm at least 68 patients transported to area hospitals.
4:24 pm ET: A Federal law enforcement authority confirms to ABC News this was an intentional bombing, using small portable explosive devices.

This is so awful ... apparently limbs were flying everywhere.  How can people be so evil?

Okay this popped up on tumblr

        there were two explosions in copley square near the end of the finish line
        a reliable news channel here reported on a third, controlled explosion, so it was likely that a bomb squad found the explosion and set it off themselves
        the people who run the marathon have called the explosions a bomb, but NOTHING has been confirmed by the police
        22 people have been injured and 2 people have been confirmed dead— injuries are severe and include loss of limbs in some cases
        yes, there was a fire in a wing of the jfk library that occurred almost immediately after the explosions were set off, but no one knows if they incidents connected yet
        the victims have started arriving at the hospital and are being treated for their injuries now
        the train and most streets are being closed off
        the fbi is on its way to the site of the explosion right now
        the president HAS been notified of the explosion
        if you live in/near boston, please just stay as far away from the explosion site as you can and allow people to do their jobs. if you have family in the area that you’re worried about, call them rather than going down to check on them.

Such a horrific event.  And what is worse, this is going to be a convenient excuse for DHS and TSA to expand their power and tighten their grip on this country, pushing us even closer to an Orwellian nightmare.

Everyone I know in Boston has managed to check in, mostly via facebook. I can understand cell service being down (one of the main concerns of course is cell phones as detonation devices) but I know that must be terrifying for so many. My friend was living in DC on 9/11 and the same thing happened and it was impossible to get in touch with family members. I think we're lucky that there are more communication options now, but still scary.

We have family in Boston so have been following the news which is terrifying-   apparently 2 confirmed dead, 90 wounded and a person of interest is in custody  (Boston Globe)

Hope everyone is safe and well. I heard about it two hours ago, before leaving to run errands. Just came home and turned on the TV, was hoping it wasn't, what it now is. Bombs.
