Build a bear pony review
« on: April 01, 2013, 12:28:16 PM »
I wanted to give a review for those of you that my be considering buying a build a bear pony.

Body and stuffing
The head of the pony comes pre stuffed the rest of the body is un-stuffed.
I think the head is stuffed just about perfect not to hard but enough that it won't loose it's shape even if you choose not to have a heavily stuffed pony.
The fabric used in the construction of the pony is very nice and soft. The colors are very nice as well. There is a stiff section in the base of rainbow dash's wings that allow them to stand up like they do in the images. The stiff part does not interfere with the overall plush cuddly feel of the pony.

Details
The eyes and the symbol are embroidered on and they are very nicely done. I looked over a few and they all seem to be consistently well done.
The symbol is only on one side which I don't mind but wanted to point that out for those of you that have not seen them yet.

Sound option
The sound option is the entire Friendship is Magic theme song not just a small part of it. I though the sound quality was good and put it in both of my ponies.

Hair
The hair had a nice quality to it and the strands seem to be a bit thicker then what the normal ponies are rooted with. Rainbow dash has shorter hair but still long enough to style and is straight. Pinkie pie has longer hair and it has a really nice natural curl to it. Both have a generous amount of hair that is enough but not so thick that it would be unmanageable. The hair is also rooted very well. You will get some hair loss the first time brushing through it but that is consistent with other plushies with brushable hair that I have owned. After a good brushing the remaining hair was firmly rooted.

Clothes
There are 2 outfits that are designed for the ponies to wear. Both are cape styles. The yellow cape comes with a necklace and flower elastic. The rainbow cape come with just the flower elastic. Both are well made and fit the ponies very nicely. They also have an outfit with a pony t-shirt and pink skirt designed for other build a bear animals to wear. The last item is a hair brush that has ponies on the back. All of the other shoes and outfits are not specifically designed for the pony release.  However there are several other options to pair with the pony outfits. The shoes are able to be worn by the ponies as well as the other items designed for dogs will also fit on the ponies. There is also several tu tu options as well.

Summary
Overall I am totally happy with these ponies and I would buy the rest of the ponies that they make.
The customer service and the overall quality of the product was excellent. If you are thinking of getting one I would say go for it. I doubt you will be disappointed with your purchase.

Here is a link to pictures I took of them. (Please excuse the junk in the background we are remodeling)

If you have any questions please let me know I would be happy to answer them for you.
I am willing to assist others in getting build a bear ponies for those that do not have access to getting them locally or online.

A very helpful review, thanks CrystalSnowflake! :)
Quick question - which "full version" of the FiM theme song do they use - the one played on the show (1 min), or the long 3 min one? :)

Yeah, the birth certificate that comes with them says 41 cm, but I measured mine at around 36 cm / a little over 14 inches from hoof to top of head, about 11 inches nose to rump. Very good size :)

ETA: the 41 cm sizing on the certificate is including the ears. I just measured mine from hoof to ear tip, and it's accurate ^.^

Oooo, thank you for the review and photos! ^.^  I'm so tempted to go build one... even though they don't have my favourite pony yet (yay, Fluttershy...!)

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

I'm really pleased with both mine!  I couldn't afford the outfits as well as the ponies today, so I'm hoping to be able to grab the last bits next month or after x

Adorable! I can't wait for mine to arrive in the mail.

Also, those are pretty good sized plushes if they barely fit in one of the Build a Bear box/cub condos.
