A little Primer Help?
« on: March 27, 2013, 01:10:57 PM »
Okay I had a thread book marked where someone had been playing with the I believe Rustolum Plastic Primer and it is not there anymore.  So anyone prime with that and if not what do you prime with?  Clonecommander has several customs coming up to that point shortly as do I.  I know can hand gesso em but was hoping to find a good spray primer that works with the pony plastic.

Hubby uses this one for R/C cars.  He says it would work for ponies, but I have yet to try it out.

That's what I've primed with in the past. I know at some point I made a thread talking about it but it was old arena.... aha, here http://www.mlparena.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=241959.html

I love this stuff. I've used it on all sorts of FBRs because up until now I didn't own an airbrush. I feel like this stuff allowed me to get the smoothest finish possible and the work held up really well.

I can tell you that the bait pony I used in that experiment was later haired and the paint really wasn't damaged at all by hairing (any more than nay other FBR.) I had it sitting around for about a year and it did not get tacky or damaged. I ended up selling the haired bait at the ohio pony meet in 2011 so don't know what happened to it after that.

I've used Liquitex primers as well.  They work nicely and go on smooth.
~Feel free to remind me to leave you feedback!  I'm forgetful!~

Trying hubby's stuff on a failed dye job.  I have already discovered that I need spray painting practice.  I figure if it works, great.  If not, I will create Patchwork pony.  Either way, I win.  :frog:

I use MSC flat for priming and sealing. I would LOVE to see your results with this as I really do not like paying an arm and leg for sealant!!! It would be so nice to pick it up locally too!!

I was planning on using Krylon indoor/outdoor primer on the Blind Bag pony. I guess I was just assuming it would work... I've been using it on customs (non MLP) for years.
