I always mark mine, no matter how "obvious" they are. I see a lot of people, especially doing alternate rehairs, who say they see no reason to as it is "obvious" that its not the original hair color. But one person's "obvious rehair" is another person's "OMG RARE VARIANT."

Quoted for truth!!

Last year I sold a bunch of ponies for a friend & long-time collector who passed away. In that group there were some really rare ponies & a handful of rehairs. Having no way to ask the owner about the ponies, I had to thoroughly inspect each one to be sure I was selling them accurately described. This is a major reason why I currently want to be sure all of my ponies are marked properly. If something would happen to me, I'd want my collection sold & the money to go to my family. In such a case, I wouldn't want the person selling my ponies to have any question about what's what.

I was thinking maybe a marker inside the neck seam, where it's not visible. Obviously breaking neck seals wouldn't be a problem for rehairs, and it would save actually visibly marking the pony.

I LIKE THIS IDEA A LOT!!!
Any Re-hair needs to have its head taken off, and I like that this does not visibly change the pony. Initials and stuff kinda make it seem more like a custom than a restore process, but people still need to know if it's original hair they're getting or not.
THIS is a fabulous idea!! BRAVO.

So what is the accepted thing to write? "RH" for re-hair?  How about Partial rehair? "P RH"?  I've rehaired a few, but hate the thought of marking the pony. However im considering doing so from now on, ESP after my good friend brought a rare pony only to discover it was a rehair (seller was unaware, so honest mistake - but shows how easily it can happen).

What brands of marker do people use?

This is a good point. RH could easily be someone's initials

Honestly, I don't really care if their hair is original or not.
However a while back I sold a spanish? snowflake and the buyer was angry because I did not state it was a rehair. I wasn't the one who rehaired it and the hair was white. How was I supposed to now it wasn't original? it's not like they used mohair or whatever that hair is that is kinda wonky. Saran?

  and this is why it is so important rehairs get marked.
