Getting rid of that vinyl smell
« on: March 22, 2013, 11:55:31 PM »
Okay, so I have three of the Funko vinyl figures and a bunch of blindbags, and the vinyl smell that they all had fresh from the packaging has not dissipated, some of them for almost a year. The corner of my dresser drawer that I stand the Funko figures on always has at least a faint smell to it, even with a fan running at night to keep the air circulating, and my glittery blindbags are just lousy with the smell.

I don't really expect to get rid of the smell entirely, but is there anything I can do to reduce it?

hmm, maybe the methods will work, people using on smelly second hand ponies? like baking powder and catlitter?

I would try that too. Start with a blind bag just to see if it doesn't for some reason damage them. I would also maybe put them outside for a day or two, just to see if it helps (if you have a balcony or something like that where they will be safe)

Haha! If I could find a way you would be more than welcome to have it!

I read up about the baking soda method and I will try that later tonight.

Sounds silly but have you exposed them to outside, cool, fresh air? Honestly sometimes that is all it takes.

You could also give the fabric softener method a shot to see if that covers or moves the scent.

Since they're brand new, I'd try just airing the out first, like hathorcat suggested. If not, hopefully one of the other suggestions will work!

That doesn't sound silly at all, hathorcat. I'll try that tomorrow unless the coming snowstorm says no.

Well, baking soda did absolutely nothing. Honestly I don't really care about the smell anymore.

It is pretty pungent...have you tried fresh air or even the fabric softener as yet? Unfortunately as the pony is solid it could take a while to get rid of the smell.

I'll try fresh air tomorrow when I don't have so much schoolwork, but it's really not a big deal for me anymore.
