Watch out for Ebay ID guasamandrapa
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:43:28 PM »
I bid on one of this seller's Peruvian ponies this weekend and won, and now he's trying to get me to paypal the payment to his "friend's" Paypal account because he claims he doesn't have one.  He's also refusing to invoice me via Ebay, instead sending me the payment details directly to my email, insisting that he doesn't have the ability to do so without a Paypal account.   Most of his feedback is good, but I don't trust this guy as far as I can throw him.

According to ebay:

This is not allowed:

A. asking members to contact him for additional shipping info
B. Accepting Xoom (as part of a way to pay for this category)
C. paypal HAS to be the one that is linked to is ebay account. You are not covered if he is telling you to send it to his 'friend's account'

I would report him/contact ebay on this manner as soon as possible.

I think I know which auctions you're talking about. Did the payment info say they take Paypal through Xoom.com? I know that I've had issues paying sellers in Peru before because apparently Paypal doesn't work with the Peruvian banks... or something like that. Some Peru sellers ask you to use a different service like Xoom.com or moneybookers (which I was not able to use even after calling their customer service line). I used Xoom once before, but there was an additional charge on the buyer's end.

Sorry I don't have anything more helpful, but I do agree that buying from Peru can be a pain.

Well aware of that, was only posting so others were aware of his shady business :)

That's the guy.  I've pretty much told him to cancel things at this point if he can't do things the legit way, just because I don't want to deal with him begging me to look at his feedback as proof of how much of a "serious seller" he is.

Oh dear!  Thanks for the heads-up!

Why do so many of the sellers of Nirvana-country ponies have such a difficult time with these things?  I frequently hear about Paypal issues with non-NA/Euro/UK sellers.... especially in South America.  I guess I don't understand their system.

Yeah, it was going to be my first really special Nirvana pony, so I'm a little miffed about everything.

I was actually looking at his auctions, too, but when I saw the "paypal through xoom" thing I just skipped right over them. There has been some reason that Peru sellers can't accept Paypal. It has something to do with how their bank system works, but I don't know all of the details. I do know that more Peru sellers are taking Paypal directly now, so it's worth asking them before you bid. This will also give you a change to check out their English communication. Not trying to sound rude, but sometimes a language barrier can make solving a problem even more difficult.

Don't give up on Nirvana ponies. :) There are LOTS of good sellers from all over the world... a few bad ones make it discouraging, especially if it's your first purchase.

Yeah, the only reason that I bid was because it said Paypal was available.  Unfortunately, it's supposedly not his, and isn't the one linked to his account.  I've since asked him (twice) to cancel things altogether, but I've yet to hear anything about it from him.  I've also reported his requests to send payment to the alternate account.

I'm not worried.  I'll get a pretty international pony with alternate colors at some point :)

Well, I woke up to a surprising update.  He's now offering to mail the pony to me and I'll pay him once I've received it, but on the condition that I send the payment to his friend's Paypal account at that point.

I told him I'm ok with that.  If he's willing to trust me to actually pay him when I receive it, I'll take the risk that he's going to send me the correct pony.  I did turn down his offer of more ponies, however.

Yeah, I mean why not right?

You've gotta tell us if you actually get it. My bet is that he backs out but you never know.
