This thread is for the sweet lady Sourdough.
This is a bit of a different custom, in that I'm simply picking up where another customizer left off.
Would this be a hand-me-down them?
Miss Stomper wants a desert scape. so to start here we have a simple rough sketch of what I intend to do for her.

So her we have part of the mid-background laid in and the foreground stone. Tomorrow... cacti!
now if you'll excuse me I have an illustration to work on before bed.

And with the wait time I made a little more progress on Chocolate Rain. She's updated too. s'cuse me while I go illustrate now. G'night all!

Basically this side is done. I'll draw up a rough sketch for the other side next week.

loginAlright Sour, Here's what I'm thinking for the revers side. I hope it's readable. it's a pretty dashed off muddy mess. The moon kinda got lost but I'm imagining one of those illuminated cloud kinds night. I can even toss in some teeny gems as stars. What ya think.

Now I think all that's needed is some sunflowers and the sculpting is done.

loginHey Sourdough! So here's one side with the sunflowers on the saddle. What do you think? For truly if you think they are awkward in anyway just say so and I can pop em off and move on to painting. no hurt no foul. I worry they may be a slight odd since I couldn't position them more centered. in the end after multiple failures at sculpting them directly on. I ended up sculpting them flat and transferring them to the saddle just before the cured.

So you can guess the scenes will be a sunset into night fall scene. Once the clouds are added the day side will be vastly different. See all the random colors slapped about in the leaves and what not? for the most part that's just me messing around as I wait for a layer to dry. that and some of those color washes can act as a base layer. same as in an under painting.
If I wanted to get cray cray with it I'd have used complement colors. for example the leaves would have gotten a red under tone and the sun flower petals a blue undertone.
Still gotta tighten up the night side. I think I'll lay in the ground base tonight.
Hey Sour! If you dont dig the direction at all for any reason... best to let me know now. from here that sunset dictates all other colors.
Whut thu... G D it! Gotta fix my sig. It is cute tho.

Middle-foreground tomorrow.
Say, Sour... what color do you think the ribbon going around the saddle should be?
And for everyone asking about the paint organizer. It came from organizemore.com It is great! I might get a second.

loginI have to say that I have surprised my self today. I didn't expect to get so much completed. The foreground sure but not the entire side. well save for the saddle ribbon of course. we still have to decide it's color. all this progress comes at the cost of my mother-in-law's sanity. Thursday is my "baby-free" in which nana has a "baby-full" day. Hence my accomplishment! I fear having a baby chucked at me when I finally open my office door. Unfortunately I do have to come out to eat at some point.
speaking of saddle ribbon... as you can see I've done a couple blocks to help Sour decide what she might want. There's the aqua kind of blue. which I worry might fade into background with the saddle image (due to all the cool tones) instead of jumping to the front to act as finishing frame. With yellow and orange being the second most dominate we go in the direction of purple. you know employ the while purple / yellow compliment color thing. this tine also comes close (not perfect) to the lighter purple in the mane.
And for a third choice, we have a cream hue in the bottom left edge. Against the largest sunflower on the saddle. Sure it's just cream, no need to break out the jazz hands but it also acts as the high contrast framing mechanism to the scene without distracting.
And there you have it, my two cents.

Also... You might be wondering why I added a pic of the pallet. Just a scrap piece of paper really.
I truly believe that something can be learned from studying someones pallet. Not only do you see the colors they used but how they mixed em. and sometimes what tones came from mixing alone rather than a tube. you also see just how much glazing they do and how translucently. You can even tell how organized they are or in my case Aren't.
I wish to gawd I could see the pallet museum in Sweden. I think it's in Sweden.
