SS Ribbon
« on: March 01, 2013, 09:30:36 AM »
I have a SS Ribbon that was in the attic for several years. When I got her down, I saw that her tail had faded onto her body from being in the hot attic for so long. Do you think that the color is just on her flocking or has faded onto the plastic? I would love to get her deflocked, but I'm also worried about her body being ruined with yellow stains. What do you think? :)

Hmmm I have a deflock I haven't finished of ribbon. Found her at a toyshow with rubbing and lots of chartreuse staining from her hair. I gave her a good scrub with a toothbrush and soap first before I started her because I was concerned it would bleed into the vinyl when I began deflocking (I only scrubbed her down so harshly because the flocking would be removed anyway). In her case the staining was in the flock fibers and on the glue. It didn't make it to her body underneath, and she progressed fine. Mine had stubborn glue though so that project fell by the wayside for now.

Oh that's good to know! Yes, those SS ponies are a pain to deflock. I'm going to pay someone to do it, hehe :)

LOL, good plan. :) Some are a nightmare- gummy, sticky, nasty, mess. Others, the flock and glue just slides right off. A dirty Truly I had almost deflocked herself under some gently running, cool water! When I got out the acetone she was finished in under a half hour!

this happened to me the other day.  I had just finished fully deflocking my ribbon.  I washed her tail and wrapped it around her leg for the day, I go to unwrap it once it had dried, and then to my horror I discover the tail has stained the back leg neon!  I got most of it off but its still stained!! WTF???

I think its very much 50/50. That yellow hair is terrible and leaks colour very easily. You could get lucky and the flock and glue have been thick enough to prevent the dye from reaching the body but if the glue or the flocking was thin unfortunately its very possible it reached her.

Because the glue normally has a yellowish colour and because her body is so dark in colour its probably not going to be possible to see if the stain is all the way through without removing the flocking.

If the worst happens and it has stained her body, it should sun fade out with time or depending on how deep into the plastic it has got it may simply come off with magic eraser if it hasnt been able to seep in very much.

Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
