eBay payment issue
« on: February 26, 2013, 02:34:45 AM »
I'm having some issues paying for an item on eBay. Other transactions have gone through fine, but this one remains pending, and despite being asked to cancel and pay again twice by the seller, I still haven't got anywhere with it.

The seller seems to think that there's nothing in his paypal to click to accept payment, whereas in mine it says that he needs to accept the payment for it to process. I'm kind of losing patience with this now. Help anyone?

Have you double checked the email address you sent it to?  I have sent payment to the wrong address before and had to change it to fix it.  If it's a new seller maybe they entered it wrong into Ebay's system?  Or maybe the email to accept payment went to his spam?

Thanks for the ideas, I've messaged him through eBay to suggest them both. He says that a payment went through yesterday for something else though, so I guess neither of those seem likely. I don't even know why the payment would be held like this.

Edit to say he's not even slightly new to ebay, he has over 1000 feedback. And I paid through eBay, so it seems unlikely the address would be wrong.

Hmm..since you are not getting anywhere with him.  I would cancel the payment and resend as he has suggested to do. There oviously is an issue with the email address that it was sent to and going by his request, he has a pretty good idea there is.
I would tell him you are canceling the payment and can he resend you the invoice? And then go from there.

I am sorry your going through this as it is very frustrating. But cancelling the payment and resending it seems to be the only thing to do at this point that he understands.

Ponylady - I've done that twice now  :( I don't think it's going to work out.

I've had several problems with eBay over the past month. Having had virtually none in the ten years or so I've been on there. It's making me sad.

Oh, I am sorry hun. I thought he requested it twice and you emailed to tell him to go accept it in Paypal. And did not cancel payment.

I think then he needs to phone Paypal and figure out what is wrong.  If you have told him numerous times to go accept it in Paypal and he can't see it, then it sounds like it is a problem on his end.  :( Plus if you have resent payment twice, it shows as pending on ebay (and he can see that) it is his responsibility to figure out what is going on.

That's okay :) I'll see what he says to my last message, and if we're still not getting anywhere maybe he can phone paypal.

Thanks for your help though, much appreciated.

Update: Nothing has happened. Payment still not accepted, seller still won't listen to me, keeps telling me to cancel and try again. I've suggested twice now that they contact paypal to see what's going on. I feel like banging my head off a brick wall here.

If he's being difficult, I'd just get frustrated! I'd send something like this -

"I'm sorry, but I've paid for my item, not once, but repeatedly as per your request. The problem is with your account, so you need to call paypal, and fix it. Contact me when it's all sorted out and my item has been sent. thanks."

What a pain in the neck!  I agree that it appears to be an issue with his account- he needs to stop being lazy and call paypal to find out what's up-

I would do as stormness suggested and email him "laying the law" down.
It's definitely on his account not yours, and there should be a little button next to your details on his PayPal that says accept. I had something similar when I brought a jacket for my other half through ebay. It just kept showing it as "pending", turned out they didn't have the right email address down so I had to cancel it. The seller was adamant it was something I was doing but after forcing them to check everything they admitted it was their fault.

Yes this is the sellers problem and they have to fix it.  You cant. I agree that it is an email issue. However are you using a credit card?  If he doesnt accept those, he cant get a payment out of pending status.  Nowdays everyone takes cards..so it must be email issues.

I would definitely ask him again to check his side of things. I have never had any issues receiving payments but I have sent a couple payments where I was notified that it was "accepted." I generally don't get an e-mail for that, just a receipt of payment. I dunno.

If he only has a personal Paypal account, he has to pay to upgrade to a Premiere account so he can accept CCs - if that's how you paid.  :)  Or there's higher fees... either way, you have to cough up to Paypal if you want to truly accept ALL forms of payment.

I would be on the phone with Ebay at this point because it doesn't sound like the seller is cooperating with Ebay policy that they accept all payment from Paypal, i.e., being a Premiere/Premium (whatever it's called) account holder.  :(

I didn't pay by credit card, I don't have one. I just paid normally, and he had 1,000s of feedback so I believe that this is an anomaly. But it's getting boring now. I wouldn't be bothered if the whole thing was cancelled, but they won't agree to that either. I guess I'll have to send another message today.
