I just saw the stolen Ebay photos thread and I wanted to post this. Mods, please feel free to merge this post with the other thread, I just though this could be of use to everyone buying and selling online
Whenever I see a pic on a website or an online auction that seems somehow 'familiar' I always use this site to verify my suspicions.
First, find an image you would like to research (an online auction, a website image, pic from a blog etc...)
For PC users, right click on the image. Select the 'view image' option. The image URL will appear in the address bar. Copy it.
For mac users, control + click on the image and select the 'view image option'. The image URL will appear in the address bar. Copy it.
Open a second window and go to
www.tineye.com ... paste the URL under the words 'Enter image address' and click search.
The website will then search the entire internet, looking for the photo you requested. It will then let you know if this is a unique image ( '0' images found) or an image that has been previously uploaded from another website ( '1' or '3' or '10' images found, etc...).
The website will then give you the URL(s) to the original site where the pic was uploaded.
I find this is a great way to verify pics, especially in overseas auctions. I hope you find this helpful!
