Brazil Pony Sticky?
« on: February 23, 2013, 05:50:50 AM »
Is it normal for the Brazil to go sticky?

All three of my Parasol's are a little sticky, not sure if its cause by the weird weather we are having or if its normal?

My Twist got sticky, I believe it's plasticizer leaking, I gave her a tooth paste bath and that helped. She's not sticky anymore but might get that way again so I gotta keep an eye on her.

Mine wasn't every sticky. I'd say plasticizer leaking like Lady Starflower mentioned. My Glo worms are sticky and I think I have at least one pony who is sticky... but not from Brazil.

It's probably just luck of the draw...just how that pony is aging. Or the batch that she was made with. Best thing to do is give her a bath and keep an eye on it. : )

I have a sticky Brazil Minty & several sticky Mexican ponies. Certain countries' ponies are more likely to have plasticizer break down than others.  All of them were fine a few years ago, but then I stored all of my ponies in ziplock bags inside of plastic storage totes. When I unpacked everything after moving, I found that a few had become sticky.

Every time plasticizer leaching comes up, it is mentioned that ponies need to "breathe" and should not be stored in sealed plastic bags. I think its a combination of environment, type of plastic used, & storage methods that cause this problem. I don't think there's any way to completely cure this problem, but washing the ponies will temporary fix it (or at least make them a little less sticky).

I have a sticky Brazil Sprinkles. She also smells a bit like petrol?!?! Up Up and Away is getting a bit of a tacky feel to her too. I asked about this a while ago and the general consensus then was plasticiser.

I'll give the three a bath and see how they go. Fingers crossed they don't get worse.

if you rub a little talc powder into a sticky pony, it will look an feel a lot nicer.
