Photographers: May I see your Light Boxes, please?
« on: February 19, 2013, 03:47:27 PM »
Like the title asks, I wanna see your light boxes!!

I know a lot of people here take AMAZING Photos of their ponies and dolls! I remember some people mentioning having a "light box" At the time I was like: "What's a light box??" Apparently they're what makes good pictures look better with controlled lighting!

I might even wanna make one for myself, so I can take my picture taking activities to the next level!!

Can I see your Light Box or even your photo taking studio/station? If you've made a DIY Light Box, can I get some input and ideas for making one? Along with pictures of your light box, can you show us pictures you've taken with your light box too, as an example?? Thanks!!

Good question! Now that my pony room is getting closer to being done (as much as possible), I may try to find a place for a lightbox myself :D

This is my photography tutorial, it covers light boxes; http://www.doctormowinckel.com/?p=668

Here's a convoluted lighting rig and big lightbox I made; http://doctormowinckel.tumblr.com/post/27586620562/i-made-a-lighting-rig-for-pony-pictures

Nowadays I do studio photography in my apartment, so I just use this;

For the longest time I wanted to make one but couldn't afford to buy extra lamps, while every tutorial I found stated you need at least three I believe? And like huge boxes and all this stuff I didn't have and couldn't afford. I got lucky on Tumblr and stumbled upon this tutorial for a simple small light box. I used a bigger box so its a bit messy (and we ran out of tape so I can't remake it XP), but it works amazingly and I can just color over/crop out the edges where it gets icky (if they even show up, sometimes they don't).

Thanks for the tutorial. If you ever think of making one in the future, I came back from Walmart and got this 16x16x15 Cardboard Box for about $0.98 and the other minor stuff I think it's safe to assume that they can be found at the Dollar Tree (Tissue paper for the windows, poster board for the seamless backdrop, etc) Just an idea. :P

I have my box, box cutter, tape, velcro and glue, now I'll take pictures along my journey to having this made and edit them into my first post.

light box, shmight box. ;3
Just some seamless paper and some diffused lighting, does the trick... and doesn't take up so much awful space.

lol, don't mind me. I won't ever build a light box because they are too big.

I dunno. When my fiance was still in college, he'd just take pictures at home when everyone would use the studio. :/ His pictures looked like they came out of highend magazines. XD So he's taught me awful ways to cut corners, but still get decent pictures.

(Mind you, I don't normally care to. But I do know how).

lol that's how Asian people are. :P We'll find a shortcut for anything and still make it work! XD

The thought of it taking up so much space pops up, that's where the Velcro comes in. Gonna make it a collapsible Light Box!

Before with my other pictures, I've used just my bed, pillows for making walls, my blankie and bed sheets made the "Seamless" backdrop. I just wanna try a new experience with picture taking and see how it goes. :P This'll be a fun experience once I complete it.
