Solutions?: Ink & highlighter marks
« on: February 17, 2013, 05:51:33 AM »
I have a lot of ponies with horrible marks and I do not know what to do with it.
I am a noob to this, but a quick learner.
Can anyone tell me what I can do to resolve these stains?

A lot of people swear by the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
Others use acetone, but you have to be careful around the eyes and cutie marks and work in a well ventilated area. Pure acetone can be harsh on your lungs.

I tried the eraser, terpentine and nail polish remover, but it just does not work .
It seems it is drawn into the plastic.

Ink stains need to be sun-faded out.  There are lots of tutorials here that will show you how.

Absolutely nothing works on ink other than sun fading.

Oh, ouch! :argh:  And she looks so lovely otherwise...  Do you ever wonder what goes through a child's head when they're doing this sort of thing?

But since she's quite white, a good sunbath on her affected areas should really help.  Ditto for Pony Bride.  Just make sure to cover all painted areas (eyes, blushes, symbols) and hair with aluminium foil.  FarDreamer's tutorial is here:

http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/body.html#StainRemoval

and RelCelestia's is here:

As for Merriweather, I think I read something about being careful with purple ponies and sun?  I know you have to be quite careful with lavender/purple/blue ponies in general, as something about their pigmentation is less stable than the other colours... I seem to recall, anyway.

Best of luck with your sunfading, and do show us the "after" photos when you're done! ^.^

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

Thank you all for replying
I will try sunfading, but first the weather has to get better for that.
Maybe I just leave Merriweather like this, I absolutely love her and the stains are on her stomach so I will not see it when I display her. I would be sad giving her a sunburn.

And about kids thinking  >_<
The pony is so pretty, I only need to straighten her hair and that would be that..but those stains :yikes:

Oh dear! But at least they are in the hands of a collector now who can hopefully fix them up!

The links Sugar posted are the absolute best tutorials for sun fading and those are your best bet if Magic Eraser has not managed to shift the mark.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
