Toothpaste + rust = buh bye!!

I do weird stuff when I can't sleep.  Which is like, ALWAYS lately, and usually it has something to do with pony cleaning. So tonight I decided to try derusting some pony tails with whitening toothpaste...and it WORKED! New revelation?  Who knows.  But it's new for me and I thought I'd share.  I tried it on the most delicate colour...Lickety Split's not so lickety lovely tail. I've found that sometimes harsher cleansers often fade pale pink, and Lickety's tail gets enough bad press for that....

And after 1 minute of scrubbing with a certain toothpaste that comes in a very shiny red stand-up tube and a simple dollar store toothbrush:

I've also used this certain toothpaste with wonderfull effectiveness on nasty, ingrained, speckly grossness on even white ponies with great results. No more nasty chemicals, boiling or putrid smells!  And her butt won't get cavities!

I also can never sleep grrrrr. I should try cleaning some ponies at night also. Great job! I have never taken a tail out..is it hard to get back in?

I have no idea! Others have done it, though, and I'm sure there's a tutorial on Deviant about it. That place is a gold mine!
Seems I'm keeping hedgehog hours. My girl Holly is running on her wheel and my brain hamster is running too. (I call not being able to stop thinking "hamstering"

toothpaste is my first line of defence against tailrust it's the best cure. you only need something stronger if you don't manage to get it all out with the tooth paste.

As for putting the tail in, it's usually not too difficult. I let the hot water pour on the tail hole so it makes it softer and then either push the tail in ot use a string to pull it from the inside

thanks for the tip - i got two ponies with tail rust myself the last days, but i also get the iron of the tail completely off cause if it's not, the rust will mostly reappear....

to get the tail back into the pony it's best to let it lay in hot water for serveral minutes - then the body is very soft

after that i personally allways bound dental floss (because it's very strong) around the middle of the tail and push the ends of the floss through the tail hole, then simply pull until the tail is through on the other side, then you can pull the rest of the right end of the tail oout with your fingers

About retailing

I take off the iron part. In the middle of the tail I put a thread with a long needle.
The needle goes from the outside of tailhole through the body, you can then get a grip on the needle and pull the tail through.
In place of the iron part I then put a tie rib around the two halfs of the tail, just behind the loop weer the thread was.
Than pull the tail from the outside tightly in place.
Never tailrust again

I usually use dish soap-- works a dream. I haven't gotten around to trying toothpaste yet. Perhaps next time I have a pony in need of a tail scrubbing, I'll give it a go!
