G1 Collecting Advice Needed
« on: February 12, 2013, 11:37:59 AM »
Ok I have 2 G1 Moondancers....

Moondancer 1 has a beautiful tail, eyes and symbol. She just has a forelock cut:(
Moondancer 2 has no tail, beautiful eyes, no symbol, and a full head of hair.

In quick glance they look about the same share of white....would it be silly of me to put the good head on the good body? Would that kill the value? I do not choose to resell either one. I plan to do a rehair and a re-symbol but that would be most to customizing. I love them both so they will stay in my herd.

What advice would you have for me? Have you tried to switch heads? Do you have any pictures of Moondancer with different hair?

Really just wanting some ideas and opinions on what I could do with these 2 sweet hearts:)

You could try, but sometimes switched heads just don't line up right. If only a few plugs were cut I would yank a tiny bit of hair from her tail and replug the forelock or buy a donor tail from somebody and use it as only Hasbro hair would match perfectly.

I'd try a head switch first. It would be easier, and then she would be in original condition and not partially rehaired.

She's a common pony and isn't exactly expensive. If the tail-less pony has beautiful face paint and matches up color wise to the other body go for it. If the head with nice hair is missing her blush, and the head with the forelock trim has blush, or more perfect blush then I'd see about getting some donor hair and filling her in. :) I'm a bit biased though as I love perfect paint on ponies.

I think as either way you are going to need to remove heads [for the switch or the rehair], I would try the simple head switch first. Although I ll also admit that over the years when I have tried this myself for some reason heads either just dont match as sweetly as you would think or what looks like a non existent colour difference is suddenly very apparent.

At the end of the day if the head switch just doesnt look right then a donor hair for forelock replacement should be easy enough with patience to track down :)
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Yeah I'd say go with the head switch. If they match up that'll be easiest : )
