Who am I? - Childhood Cabbage Patch Kid
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:03:43 AM »
When I was little and living in Puerto Rico, I was passed down a Cabbage Patch Kid. This doll went everywhere with me, literally! When I moved to the US, of course she came with me. She had lost her shoes, but it didn't bother me. She was my favourite toy along with my Sky Skimmer who had only one jeweled eye. One night, my doll fell from where she sat and somehow landed next to the heater. I woke up to see her entire side burned and since that day I mourned her "injury". Eventually, my mom contacted Mattel asking if they could fix her, perhaps send her new arms and legs but they no longer made parts for first edition dolls or anything simular. My mom tried to buy me a new one but she wasn't the same and I donated her. Now I've been looking at these kids online and decided to try to find her. She still breaks my heart a little but at least now I'm an adult and am perfectly okay with her flaws.
Unfortunately, it seems like she's a ghost. Nowhere to found! Only "close matches" turn up.
So I'm asking you, the amazing dollhouse of the Arena, who is she? Do you know anything about her? Any help would be appreciated.

I made her a "cast" out of craft felt the morning of her "injury". I was going to remove it but I couldn't bring myself to.

I don't know what kind of kid she is, but you do know that no two CPKs are alike, right? That's part of their charm. "I'm one of a kind, I'm adoptable!" is one of the slogans right now.

Oh I know, I just mean I haven't seen many with the little tuft of hair at the top that weren't the cloth-bodied ones. They all have yarn hair, too.. Or are bald.

I'm not sure which one you have because of the body and arms (I'm used to the cloth bodied/armed ones) but the head looks kind of similar to a CPK I had growing up (She was also an AA baby with a little curl up on top!).  The one I had that had a kind of similar head was a Sip N Burp baby from maybe the year 1992 or 1993?

Anyway, tried research a little and there were Cabbage Patch dolls with those limbs and body that were called Splash and Tan.  Maybe you could do a little more research and see if this might be it?  I hope we can help you solve the mystery!

How big is she?  If she is small they had one at my local thrift store in a box.  The whole body I believe was plastic, but I think she was a diffident color.

Sorry we lost power/net for a while and my phone didn't load threads too well.
I think you've found her! That little floaty does seem familiar and the baby powder smell is still there to this day. That would explain why most of my memories are about playing with her in the tub. Thank you so much.

That's definitely what it is! See, I got one for Christmas in 1996 and I remember it looked EXACTLY like that! Well nearly exactly like that! Though mine had blue eyes :)
