Cleaing MGR Ponies
« on: February 04, 2013, 07:54:24 AM »
I have a very grubby MGR Brilliant Blossoms that I need to clean. The problem is, she seems to have a splattering of small, blue dots all over her face and body. I would say they are mold, but they actually look more like ink bc they are a darker blue color?
I can't find the tutorials about soaking blue ponies in Oxyclean, and I'm not sure what to do about her MGR saddle? She also has yellow hair that I'm worried about fading.

So: 1) Can I soak BLUE ponies in warm Oxyclean?  It's winter and FREEZING outside, so I thinking that sunfading might not work well, but if I need to, 2) Can I sunfade in a peroxide bath if I cover the hair? Will the saddle paint fade, ya think?

Thanks!

Try a good surface scrub with soap and water?  Then carefully try some acetone on spots that aren't painted. If it doesn't look ingrained then I'd pass on the oxy. (I'm not a big fan of the stuff. Not totally sure if yellow hair like that would bleed.) You may just be looking at a sunfade.

Yeah, I tried acetone on her forehead- nothing!

She's really dingy and dull colored, also. I think I remember reading that Oxy can help brighten their color...I just can't find the link with all the cleaning tutorials. It used to be pinned at the top of the Pony Corral forum, but it's not there. Looked in the Customs forum, not their either.
 Attaching pics shortly...

I'd avoid oxyclean with that yellow hair. If acetone didn't work I doubt oxyclean would budge it either. I think sunfading would be your best friend.

I agree with crumpet, probaby try sunfading on her. I've had ponies with marks allover like that and they end up in my bait/customize bin if a bleach/water/scrubby clean doesn't take them off. (It almost looks like a weird mold discoloration...)

UGHHHHH!!! Well, guess I'm not sun fading her after all- I went to iron her forelock and someone had turned up the heat to HIGH and I basically FRIED her luxurious, otherwise silky mane. Oh, and the person who turned up the heat was ME- not paying attention!

Anyone want a baity MGR Brilliant Blossoms??? :(

Hon, you can rehair her. Don't give up. Its easy and you can use donor hair from her tail to fix it.

I fried her hair mane right near the roots, so It's all falling right off. I don't think her tail will provide me w/enough for her mane. But maybe I will throw her in my rehair pile for when I get the courage to try rehairing....

Awwww!! I would certainly rehair her...don't be scared of it!! You can always pull it out and try again if it doesn't work the first time. :) It's okay hun, those things happen. I once fried a $40 doll wig...

Oh thats a shame :(

Have you looked inside her? In case it is something staining through. It almost looks like regrind or a plastic breakdown due to the pigments. Neither of which are fixable but in case it is ink or something on the surface I would have recommended a clean out inside and then a sunfade. Unfortunately that hair colour is not color fast so you cant really boil her in water let alone oxi.

Hey Hathorcat- you might be right about it being a pigment breakdown issue. I already popped her head off and looked inside- she's a lovely bright blue inside and no mold at all.
I want to rehair her, but I don't know where to start.  I need hair and a reroot tool and there just seems to be an overwhelming amount of options out there! I wish there was a rehair started kit for newbies- you just pick the hair color. Lol.

You can get hair from dollyhair. If you need a match just quick post your question over on customs.
As for a re-hair tool all you need is a needle (trim part of the eye off) and then stick needle into the eraser end of a pencil... If you need more specifics there's tons of info over in the customs forum...

There are some great rehairing tutorials and its easy enough to do :)

If you are rehairing her as her original colour I believe its yellow fever on dollyhair.

And if you ask for tips and tricks over in Customs I am sure you ll get lots of help!
