What do you think ember's talent/cutie mark is?

The first ever blank flank as may of you know was a little earth filly named Ember

She only shows up in Rescue at midnight castle had no back card and had one book, Ember's Dream which came with Ember who had a cutie mark

But it's never revealed what her skill is. I currently don't have any theory of my own but i would love to hear everybody's else's.

I don't remember what the story from Ember's Dream was.  Just guessing from the symbol is that she has a skill for being the star of an episode? lol  Maybe she wishes on a star a lot.

Nothing, because pre-G4 symbols didn't define talents.

That or her talent is being mysterious.

Well shady had magic shades, Fuzzy could make bubbles, Moondancer made glowed and Glory could make comets just a few G1 cutie mark related skills that I can think of off the top of my head.

Ember's dream was about her having a dream about somebody shaving the mane of the rainbow poines to make wigs in the big scary world of New York City. Never is her cutie mark or lack for of even talked about.

My original first ember that I got from hasbro in the mail was the blue one. I decided he was a boy  and when myself and my cousin played with our ponies, he was the class clown and made everyone laugh.

So I think he grew up to be a standup comic.

The star on the rear of the Ember that was sold with the cassette tape made me believe that yea...he got into show business and was some kinda entertainer.

The idea behind them not having a symbol, at least for the UK newborn, was so that her new owner could give her a symbol. I dont think it was ever explained for the mail order Embers.

I think lots of ponies talents don't necessarily match up to their symbols - we see that with quite a lot of ponies, Peaches being a good example - sometimes it can be a subtle hint rather than something obvious.

Stars seem to represent magic so I am going to say she grows up to be an earth pony with magic powers.

Lol - unfortunately yes...but then again in 1988 I doubt Hasbro were thinking about a pony's future value to collectors. And is it truly any different than the same concept we are seeing in the Design a Pony product?

nah, not really.  Although the design a pony products seem to have more stuff to decorate the pony with included.  Then again I have no idea what came with Ember so I may be way off mark.

Speaking of which- I finally saw the DaP's in walmart and got creeped right out.  I think they definitely do not look as nice in person.  (Sorry for off topic tangent, I just had to say something.)

Come to think of it though, Hasbro isn't doing a lot as far as future collector value goes today either.

I wasn't talking about Ember but the UK newborn with no symbol. She didn't come with anything [although neither did any of the Embers] but the reason for her having no symbol was so she could be given one by her new owner.

These products are for children so I don't think there was any harm in such a concept at the time really. It may not work for us as collectors but for the actual target market its a cute idea.

I dont quite understand how encouraging children to draw on a pony now is dissimilar from encouraging it 30 years ago.
