This thread makes me want to open my DDG Operetta now.... It's a good thing she's packed away right now. >_<

Shock, you are so funny! and I love Wishbone!!

Salli, you've just outlined every problem I have with Operetta.  The colors throw me so hard.  Lavender with red, (only in my opinion) don't look good to me.  If she were re-rooted in a different color, I could be interested in her.  Also, she SHOULD be Parisian, not honky tonk.  But they had Rochelle, so I'm guessing they had to go somewhere with it.

I think they should have done something cool for the South, lots of fun ghosts and swamp things, Alligator man, witches and stuff. I'm just a fan of the Phantom and it's hard for me to imagine that she (sounding 50, and I picture Reba too!) came from him. Like you have Draculaura, and you can totally picture her dad being the traditional Count Dracula, with the stereotypical accent, etc. I don't know, she doesn't have to be 'like' her dad, but her character development just didn't feel 'organic' to me. Maybe I just need therapy. XD

Well, to be fair, Louisiana used to be a French colony, so it makes sense that of all the places in America the Phantom could have moved to, it would be there.

What I don't get is her dice and spider motifs. The music notes and such make sense, since she's a musician, but where do the dice and spiders fit in? Is she a gambler? Or is it just meant to invoke the floating casino steamboats that used to ply the Mississippi River? And are the spiders there because she hangs out in the catacombs?

True, good point. I think I wouldn't have a problem with Mattel's design if a) the color scheme didn't bug me (I know, it's my own, private annoyance ;) ) and b) her voice on the show didn't drive me bananas. I wish they had done New Orleans debutante, in all purples. I could roll with that. Maybe I will try to do a costume and photo like that.

I hadn't even thought about the dice. I don't like the spiders, but that's at least monstery and with the catacombs, I get it. The dice I don't. That is a good point.

I do LOVE her new fashion pack (which I bought) :D I may chop the dice heels off an replace though.

To be honest, I like the dice. I just don't get what they're all about.

i love operetta because i love the phantom of the opera. i dont like that she is a country girl or that her hair is in a curled updo or that she has a pet spider. i have 2 of her and would love to get more of her. i am thinking about rehairing my roller maze, just need to decide on the colors.

I love her in Venus' outfit, it looks so 80s and fun! I just got the DC version and she's so pretty, but I thought her hair was longer, I guess I was thinking of the DDG version. I guess I should buy them all lol.

Oh, Salli, I am with ya!!

I have been annoyed with the development the whole time. I Totally understand what Pukunui is saying, that New Orleans would have made perfect sense, but the cartoon voice they have put with her throws the whole thing off!

She sound like Opry, no wait, more like backwoods redneck Southern than genteel Southern. Does that make sense to anyone?? lol!  :yikes:  The regional dialect is just off, WAY off. haha!! I think likening her to the caricature of Southern that is Applejack makes sense, it is a caricature of how we sound....  hahahaha!

I really thought that Operetta was really fugly at first. I didn't like the bright red hair with the purple skin, but I will admit that she'd growing on me.
