Help me fall in love with Operetta
« on: January 29, 2013, 03:40:07 PM »
Try as I might I just don't quite see her appeal but I'm willing to try! Could you guys post some amazing pictures and help me see the error of my ways? I love her various outfits it's just her face that I can't seem to bond with.

Oh, but she's lovely! I have the DDG version:

In my opinion she looks best in a big fancy dress or gown...

I am kind of like you. I'm on the fence with this doll. I am thinking about getting my first verison of her soon, just not sure which one. I will admit that tuneful's pic makes her look really nice and elegant. I am not crazy about the designs engraved in her skin. It looks.....strange. I know MH is supposed to be a strange line, but they kinda bug me, LOL.

I've never read Operetta's diary, but can someone fill in the blanks for me? (It's probably been discussed, but I haven't seen it before.) I know she's the daughter of the Phantom of the Opera, but a burnt face isn't an inherited trait...

Edit: My last pic shows her other side. XD

I fell in love with her swing style and signature  'victory roll' hairstyle, but she has many other good qualities.

She plays well with others in her peer group...

While I can't say I disliked her face, I wasn't thrilled with her hair style for the dance class version, so with some help and suggestions from fans here on the arena she went from this

I've always thought she was pretty neat - this is the only photo I really have of her. I don't seem to take as many photos of my MH dolls...

She's the one doll I just am not crazy about, though I like some of her outfits/accessories and shoes.  It may be because the stereotypical southern thing grates on my nerves a bit.

I wasn't into her at first, but then I got one for her outfit, and after a while I decided she might not be so bad after all ... and then my wife was quite taken with her red hair and since that was sort of the first time she's ever shown any interest in the dolls I figured I couldn't very well go and sell her nude ... and then I went and took these pics:

Puku, you are so awesome.

The Phantom wasn't burned, he was born deformed, which could have passed genetically. I actually love the scrollwork in her skin. I think it's very elegant. And while I love red hair and victory rolls etc. I just hated it with the purple. Red and purple?!?!?!  Red. Aaaannnnd Purple, guys.  THEN her roller maze doll ads yellow and green.  :yucky: I know she's a 'monster' but there's a line.

Anyway, I also felt like she should be Parisian and elegant and not a Southern cougar living under a high school. I got her rehaired with long, dark shades of purple, and I painted her eyes, but I think I am going to try to redo them with pastels and such  :lookround: (wish me luck) and give her false eyelashes. I have the fabric for a great (hopefully) couture gown to make her when she is ready and maybe then more people will see how beautiful she is. I already love her a billion times more without the garish hair and lips. Actually, when you strip her head down from hair and paint you can really see how delicate she is.

Are you referring to her lavender skin or her purple shirt? I don't actually have a problem with her color scheme really. I didn't like her for a long time because I thought her skin was actually pink. It wasn't till I got her home and out of the box that I saw that it was in fact lavender (although I think some of the later versions of her *do* have fairly pink skin ~ it may be a China vs Indonesia thing).

What do you mean by "Southern cougar"? Isn't she a "teenager" like all the rest?

I actually don't like her looks overall in the various lines she is in, but then I saw her signature doll and I loved her for her signature look.

Red and purple have actually been a common color combo for valentines day. Take a look around at valentine stuff. Tons of red and purple.

The bright red hair and pale lavender skin tone do clash.  Some of the clothes with the red and darker purple are okay (though it makes me think of the Red Hat Society).
