Cleaning Rust from Inside a Pony?
« on: January 18, 2013, 04:19:10 PM »
I picked up a small lot of ponies at Salvation Army today, one of which is a grubby Scootaloo with terrible rust inside her. It's in her feet, her ears, everywhere. Can anybody give me advice on the best way to her out, especially in the places I can't reach? Anything I could soak her in?

I'd prefer a cleanser that won't eat her paint, if possible; I plan to bait her, but don't really want to fully repaint the eyes.

Break up a couple of denture tablets and scatter them inside.  Add some water and let her fizz for a while.

I'll have to try that!

I have a few ponies that need a scrubbing, but its so tedius. I would usually boil them in oxyclean then scrub the inside with a tiny scrub brush. So much work XD

I have one that I took apart and put CLR in it. Seemed to work well, I took a q-tip to her inside. But I can not get it out of her legs. I might have to give that tablet thing.  I was worried that was going to get runied my the CLR, but she seemed ok.

Good luck :)

Mine was so bad that she is going to need new hair now.

Another thing that works super well is toothpaste! Take an old toothbrush and just keep scrubbing until it all comes out. Toothpaste contains the shells of tiny microorganisms, which is the "crunch" you feel when you brush your teeth, and the abrasions help to remove plaque. But it works just as well on rust!

Yup I do exactly what rybett says :) After soaking her - toothpaste as well as a baby toothbrush or a pipe cleaner in order to get into as many corners as possible should finish her up. Good luck.
