trying to customize a Barbie horse!

Has anyone ever tried customizing one of these before? If so, what kind of things should I watch out for?

Hmmm, not as an adult.... I used to color on her like a dry erase board, though! (I still have her, & you can't even tell I did such a thing!) If you figure it out & need another bait, I can give you mine-she's just in her box in storage. ;)

I have! :3

they aren't too difficult :3 if you can split the horse in half, it's super easy to replace the hair, painting is pretty much the same, but you have to be careful until you seal it because the paint can scratch off easy

Thank you very much for your offer of your dry erace horse! (Get it? RACE horse? Wha wha wha!!) I find plenty of custom fodder here. I think I'll go at her with some fine grade sandpaper and just see where the wind blows my fancy. My customs never end where I wanted them to in the beginning, but I think that is what gives them their souls!

Very nice custom, Alatariel! I think I'm going to go right nuts with this one...she's got my creative juices flowing!!

you don't need to sand them usually either, it will tear up the plastic if you do, unless you're trying to sand down some glue or something, but don't sand the plastic

I know there are artists who work with other hard plastic horses, like "Grand Champions".  I have seen some amazing customs by them!  Can't wait to see what you create!

I'd ask Diamond.  I'm guessing the Barbie horses are similar to Breyer when it comes to the materials it's made of.  I'm pretty sure that's what she customizes, and they're amazing!

Thank you for stopping me from making the mistake of sanding. I thought maybe roughing it up a bit might help the paint stick better!
