Mod Podge and Dollyhair
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:03:59 AM »
I bought some Mod Podge a while ago for sealing paint on ponies, but I think I may have gotten the wrong thing. It's brushstroke mod podge matte and it says on the back "create the perfect brushstoke finish on canvases, prints and decoupage projects. Seal project with an acrylic aerosol sealer before applying brushstroke medium." It also says it creates a textured finish. I want it smooth and to seal the paint, did I get the wrong stuff?

Also, does anyone have a picture of a pony with Dollyhair Starlight? My G1 Bride Pony is bald and I want to try to rehair her and I thought Starlight might look pretty on her since it's sparkly. But I wanted to know what it looks like in person :)

Matte Modgepodge is used by a lot of artists for sealing.  I think many people water it down and go for a few very thin layers.

I've never used the brushstroke mod podge, and it's not really what you should have gotten for ponies (you wants the standard matte mod podge, which comes in a yellow bottle/jar) but you can probably still use it. If you thin it down with water until it's more milky then it should hopefully work okay and not have a texture.

I doubt it's going to work, unless you thin it down a LOT. If it's meant for creating brushstrokes, it'll probably leave brushstrokes on your pony, which you don't want.

As for Starlight, I've never used it, but I recommend looking at the product picture on My Little Customs. I have found that their images are far more accurate than Dollyhair's.

I use Matte Mod Podge all the time.  I love it!

As for Starlight, I've blended it with other colors (mainly Fairy's Breath), but I've never used it alone :)

Check out this Bride Pony rehair. This is in Moonlight, whic is darker and more silver than Starlight, but I think it would give a good idea.

You'll need to water the mod podge down alot, until it's a rather watery consistency if you are trying to avoid brush strokes. I use Starlight quite a bit (and should have some in my hair box I can show you but I'll have to check). It's a gorgeous shiny white. You have that G4 collectors pack with Nightmare Moon don't you? You know the neat shine that the light blue hair in the ponies from that set have? Starlight shines like that. It would look gorgeous on the pony bride.

I use modge podge all the time mine dries clear with no real bumps or anything it will show brush strokes if you're sealing over a light color though so if you're painting a pony yellow or a bright color I would use thin layers of it

Starlight is oh my gosh my favorite dolly hair color! I have no pictures right now but trust me it's great it's almost got a silver tint to it.

Hmm, I might look at what other stuff is at the store. I bought it so long ago, lol.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! Sounds like Starlight is a good choice :) And SD, that custom is gorgeous!!!!
