Colour / discolouration on Twinkler?
« on: January 14, 2013, 05:15:00 AM »
I've been interested in getting a Twinkler for a while and have noticed they can differ in colour. I saw one on ebay that was in the EU (good for me) and seemed to be okay. I didn't have much information or pictures to go on, so I took a chance - nope I didn't ask the seller for more info. It just arrived and it's overall good (eyes, blush, symbols and hair) except that it smells smoke (fixable). My main concern however is its colour, it wasn't as purple as I thought it would be.

My question is: What is Twinkler supposed to look like? Is she a nice blueish purple or is there any form of brownish tone to her? I have googled pictures and she does look very different in them. Maybe she easily discolours and it's hard to take pictures of her as well? My Twinkler might also be discoloured from the smoke. Another thing is that she's quite hard, is this the normal ageing process for sparkle ponies or was she like this to begin with?

If she discolours when ageing, do you think it's the course of time, the sun or perhaps something else? I'd might try sunfading a small part of her just to see how it goes. If the sun did this to start with it's quite a bad idea though. :)

Here she is. She doesn't looks so brownish / reddish from a distance but also not the more
blueish purple I've seen in other photos. (This is my photo and not the ebay photo
where she looked more purple - it wasn't photoshopped.)

Here's the ebay photo in case anyone's interested.

that's her natural color :) she's not faded or discolored. occassionally one comes a bit darker purple (and there's the store one and the MO one....)
but mine's been that color since my childhood

That's great news. :) I have noticed that she looks different just by moving her around in the house and she looks different depending on what time of day it is. Can't wait to get rid off the smoke smell and straighten her tinsel!

It is probably because of the opaque nature of her body that she can be a little prone to looking different shades in different lights and different photographs.

I agree those I have look very close to the top photo perhaps a touch more purple in mine but again that could be because the picture is giving that impression - she is a certainly a more red based than blue based purple in colour.

Any yellowing on this pony will make her purple look brownish so its always possible that for some Twinklers that is why she looks more brown than she should be - if she has a nicotine smell it is possible she is a touch yellowed over time.

She looks lovely though :)

Yes, the nicotine smell makes me a little suspicious. Will might try sunfading the bottom of a hoof once it gets sunnier. Then we'll know what sunfading does to a purple see through pony. She looks much better in the evenings btw.

don't sun fade her the plastic is thinner quality and it might damage her.
