minty for g4?

I've wondered many times about the minty that was being sold on taobao, and later in ebay
I wonder what happened? I mean was just a prototype? or maybe the person that used to sell her made her like when they do that factory error ponies?
If it was a prototype, then why she was never in the stores?
well if she is ever sold again in taobao I will not think 2 times about it.

I'd like to know more about it :S

minty is the only g3 I like D: so I got very exited when she started appearing...
but at least there is this one picture of here in which appears the taobao user's shop that sold her, so I will keep cheking...

Yes, the pony was just a prototype. The few that we have seen were created in early 2011. She must have never made it into mass production, hence why we have none other than the few that surfaced a year ago. My guess is that Hasbro commissions samples from their factories, and any leftovers that are not needed are sold bulk in China.

Sure someone had to have "made her". Unlike most of the Franken-ponies, she is completely unique from any existing releases, not something someone just whipped together by swapping heads.

Whoever made Minty had to have had access to a lot of things that would only be available in the Hasbro factory:
1. The molds of the pony
2. Green plastic that has not been used for any other pony
3. Access to paint/decals that have never been used for G4s; purple eyes, and mints symbol
4. Hairing tools for G4s
5. The Hasbro date stamping machines for the hooves on the G4s

Everything about Minty is the same quality as every other current pony release, so I would find it hard to believe someone made it as a custom.

I do like Minty as well, her colouration is a fresh outlook on the other colours of ponies currently in release. I would like to see them make more green ponies too... like that one minty look-alike they had on the "Apple Family Reunion" episode of MLP:FIM.

I'm thinking... What if Minty is going to be part of a playset, and Hasbro haven't quite finalised the design of the other playset parts?

I really hope she gets an eventual release.

For all the reasons spelled out by BrightIdea not to mention the fact that there was a confirmation by someone at some point from HB that retailers had recently knocked back the idea of a specific holiday pony, I have no doubt she was a sample product run. For some reason, which I am sure none of us truly understand considering her presence in G3, her blind bag/ponyville G4 character and her all round popularity, she just never seems to have made it to shelves.

However all that being said - they have done the run and there are many many years to come in G4 hopefully so perhaps and hopefully she will still get a release somehow and somewhere.

I still have this feeling that she is going to be released. It just doesn't make sense that they would make prototypes (a bunch! Not just one!) but then scrap the idea, when they've remade a few G3 ponies already (especially as blind bags!) and when she was a very prominent character during G3 (how many releases did she get? She MUST have been a big seller).

I'm thinking of making a custom from one of the many extra Pinkies I have...
