A different kind of RAOPK/ Brony encounter

I work in a restaurant that has a similar setup as Subway.  You make your own pizza/sandwich/salad along the line, etc.

So, this family walks in.  Mom, dad, two boys.  One looked to be still in elementary school and the other looked to be about 13 or 14.  I got their orders and, as I made them, I listened to them talk.  I heard the dad say something to the older one along the lines of, "I'm not going to hassle you about this My Little Pony thing". My ears perked up.  I looked at the kid and said, "Hey.  There's nothing wrong with liking My Little Pony."  The dad obviously wasn't having any of this and said, "Yeah, he calls himself a 'brony'".  He was obviously not happy about his son's choice of hobbies.  I put their orders in the oven and let the matter drop.

As I was running food and busing tables, I kept an eye on theirs to see if the parents got up to do something.  I had a idea.  I have a blind bag Roseluck that I made into a keyring and carry around on my keys.  I took her off of my keyring and watched as the parents got up from the table and got ready to leave.  I went to start clearing their table and, as I was doing so, I slipped the kid my blind bag Roseluck and "brohoofed" him.  He seemed a little confused like, "Why is this punky chick giving me a pony?"

I have a feeling that I sort of made his day.

And I have a spare Roseluck to put back on my keyring.

I am willing to put money on the parents of that boy assuming that 'brony' means 'homosexual' or 'sissy' in some way, the lad should be hefting weights and learning the best way to do an engine swap or deny responsibility about his secretary, obviously.
(I may be bitter about this.. )

That was so mean of his father to shame him in that way, obviously others could hear it if you could hear it. If my parents have something to say to me, they wait until we are home or in the car where no one can overhear.

It's sad how adults see some "bronies" as twisting something sickening on MLP or forcing boys to like MLP. I wish they would see that MLP is all about love and friendship...we don't need society to tell us what to like.

You did an awesome thing. I just hope the parents won't accuse the boy of stealing that keyring.

i'm so glad my big burly husband doesn't mind our wee boy loving ponies, he will even watch it with him. its some of the boys at kindergarten that tease him though
i feel so sorry for some of these kids that have to fit into a stereo type

That was awesome! I just had a thought... I have some other G4 ponies I've been holding on to for customizing that are in great shape. Maybe I'll carry them in my purse and hand them out when I see a little pony lover out there not getting the pony love they need. ^__^ My five year old nephew loves Spike and I just happen to have a spare so I may give it to him even though my sister doesn't want him to like anything pony.

The way I see it is TV shows may cater to a specific audience, but that doesn't mean that said audience is the only group of people allowed to watch it.  -shrugs-

My nephew is 8 years old and he likes Sonic, Thundercats, and video games as well as MLP and my brother is perfectly fine with it.  My boyfriend who's a gun-toting, rum drinking, gamer guy loves ponies as well and is starting a pony plushie collection (the cheap, almost show-accurate ones on Amazon) and, while I may tease him for it, I'm fine with it.
