Sodastream?
« on: January 02, 2013, 08:36:50 AM »
Does anyone else have a SodaStream machine?  Any fun recipes?

We've tried using fruit nectars added to the sparkling water and it's not too bad.  Mmmmm apricot nectar!

My hubby bought me a Sodastream as a christmas gift (and I was so hoping that the big gift box was for a 8-bit Nintendo.. Ah, well.)

I haven't tried anything else but the fruit concentrates that came with the machine. (Well, I have tried Mehukatti juice, but that wouldn't help you since it's a Finnish product. :P)

Actually, I came to ask something. What happens if you add the concentrate/sweetener/whatever to the water BEFORE you carbonate it? I mean, if you carbonate the water WITH the concentrate, will the machine explode or something?

Edit: Hmm, just as I was spell checking the word carbonate (I was originally going to write carbonize, but it sounded funny and I'm pretty anal when it comes to spelling). ANYWHO, I stumbled upon this.

Uh oh, so, my question is pretty much answered there. Sorry for the unnecessary post!

Congrats on the soda stream! I love ours-  I didn't know about the rule at first, and bubbled all sorts of things-  but actually bubbly water is in demand the most, and it is easy to add a bit of concentrated juice after.  Also- since the thing only comes with the two bottles, and cleaning the thing is a concern, we now try to stick with water.

TOTAL staple if you make mixed drinks, but also a fun add to those Kerns fruit drinks, or other thick fruit drinks that are too much alone...

I've had one for a couple of years. I don't like just carbonated water but swith some stuff added it's pretty nice. Cconcetntrated blackberry juice added to the water is heavenly! I lovelovelove that! Also, water combined with pearjuice makes it taste like sparkling cider. :)

It sounds like an interesting idea, but it seems like it would get expensive if you wanted to actually make things with the syrups they sell.

There were soda streams in the 80's?  Didn't know that!  :P

I love ours.  It saves money (and cans) since my hubby drinks a LOT of diet coke.  I like to just drink the carbonated water or make fizzy mint water in the summer (I grow mint and soak it in water and it's so yummy).  It's interesting enough that I actually drink it, but no extra calories.

Ooooh I have SO much mint in our garden it's not even funny.  I may try your idea, ZennaBug!

I always see them in the supermarket, they look intriguing.. but I'm engaged to diet coke, so I'm not sure I'll be moving onto homemade soft drinks any time soon ;P

Not my sort of thing. I don't tend to like things carbonated outside of colas and pink sparkle juice.

I've been wondering if these things are any good. They certainly LOOK amazing, but you never can tell . . .. It's good to know that so many folks are loving them.
