Fluttershy Bongo and Tardis Converse sneakers!

My brother and his wife are both avid MLP and Doctor Who fans (as am I, lol) so for Christmas this year, I customized him a pair of Doctor Who Converse, and her 2 pairs of Fluttershy Bongo canvas sneakers

I used acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium, and I heat set them (ironing shoes... ugh) so they should wear pretty well!

The sign on the Tardis has all the words.  I wrote them with a rehairing needle dipped in black paint.  True story.

The white Fluttershy shoes have snow and scenery all the way around the shoes and both pony shoes have little butterfly charms attached, and the Doctor Who shoes have a tie charm and a converse sneaker charm (who knew they sold those?!)

I've customized a pair of shoes before too... but I just used straight acrylics and they aren't wearing very well. What is the fabric medium you used out of curiousity? and I'm curious about the heat setting as well, I'd love to be able to do it better

I think the brand I used was Delta Creative, but not by choice; it was the only brand they had at my Hobby Lobby.  I hear good things about Golden brand GAC 900.

I mixed it according to the directions (2 parts medium to one part paint for this brand) with each color in a palette as needed.  I didn't measure, just eyeballed it.

To heat set them, I stuffed the shoe with some spare fabric to give a firm surface, laid a pressing cloth (just a piece of clean cotton fabric) on top, and ironed it gently for the time recommended by the fabric medium.  It was tricky with the curved surfaces, but doable if you keep the iron moving and do one small area at a time.
