Name of pony paint remover?
« on: December 13, 2012, 08:06:33 AM »
A quick question...

On Minty's Custom Persuasion, I remember seeing a tutorial on how to remove pony symbols, eyes, and other marks with a certain product. Since then, the website has been taken down, and I can't remember what the name of the remover was! I think it began with a "G", but it wasn't Goo-Gone. It was described as after being sprinkled on, and dissolving the paint. Does anypony know what it is?

Your answers are greatly appreciated. :)

God bless,
Starlily

pure acetone is generally the best at removing paint, I think. :)

Pure acetone or if you want to be super gentle I use Windsor newton brush cleaner.

I think it might have been Goof Off! I've tried using nail polish remover with acetone before, but it ended up staining my G3 Fluttershy's plastic. :(

Thanks, all of you, for your help!

You don't want to use nail polish remover, it's not strong enough and will just smear paint around. You want to use pure acetone.

There are a ton of custom tutorials over on our customs board. http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,283445.0.html

Yep, pure acetone is your best bet for paint removal!  Just use gloves and remember to have proper ventilation.

I swear by goof off. It's amazing. Be careful with it though, it will act like acid and start eating through stuff if you're not careful XD

What would work the best on the glitter covered G4 blindbags? I've tried acetone, but it does kind of a poor job on whatever Hasbro uses to make it stick on them.

It's a shame that website is gone, it's one of the first tutorials I looked at when I was just starting out customizing.

I know, right? It was helpful for me when I was just reading up on the subject.

step 1) Pour a small amount of acetone in a mug
step 2) drop in blind bag
step 3) go do something else for a minute
step 4) forget all about blind bag
step 5) come back 20 minutes later freaking out and spitting expletives
step 6) remove pony from mug, remembering to be careful since last time you pulled a blind bag out of acetone you ruined the soft plastic with your plyers
step 7) Be amazed by your glitter free and undamaged blind bag that required zero effort
