2012 SDCC Pony - another wave passed through Taobao? Or more first runs?

So last week I noticed at least two separate sellers on Taobao selling the 2012 SDCC pony for a price of ¥ 258.00.    I think someone else on the board noticed the same thing a week or two earlier...

The price while high- is less than the current price for her (about $43-45).  I was particularly interested because the ponies APPEAR to be the engineering pilots/samples that were turning up on Taobao before the pony was confirmed as the SDCC pony... with the bigger eyes?   Of course no way to know if they are re-using photos (which is common on Taobao) or what-  but I got one just in case she is an EP- because I like those sorts of things.   I also figured it might be neat to have a loose one if she turns out to be identical. 

So just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone still looking for her-  there seems to be a few of them passing through Taobao right now- and even one on regular ebay from a China seller - but listed for $99  (probably they are all same person).  The seller I bought from seems to have run out for now- but it might be worth keeping an eye on this seller in case he or she gets more.   


On a related note-  has anyone actually confirmed that the pony found on Taobao (long before SDCC release) - actually has bigger eyes than the official release?

Yeah, I saw these but I missed out. Mainly because my agent took 2 days to act. They're normally faster than that so it was quite frustrating.

I did ask my agent to ask the seller if more were going to be in stock. The seller said that they only ever had 3 and that they can't get any more.

Still, it's reassuring to know that she's still floating about on Taobao occasionally. Although you still have to be lightning quick because there are a lot more people searching Taobao now for ponies.

I think someone out there has the big eyed version and the smaller eyed version that are both prototypes and different from the final run.

I'm still looking for the big eyed version.  She has two toned hair.

I'm pretty sure someone did a side by side comparison of the two.. and the first ones found on taobao did have larger eyes. Also there was something with hair, like one had stripes. I can't remember. (or were there 3 different ones floating around... oh I dunno).

I'd dig up the threads, but I really suck at doing that.

The bigger eyed grey pegasus also had white streaks in her hair. It was really pretty, and the huge eyes were super unusual! I really want to see if I can snag one of those sometime.

This brings back memories of the first rush on these guys! My agent was inundated with requests for them for listings that had long been depleted.

No, it doesn't have white streaks. It has lighter yellow streaks.

I see, thanks for the clarification! I do wish they'd stuck with that arrangement; it helps break up the hair color and make the overall presentation much more interesting.

These ones seemed to hang around for a bit- one seller had like 5 listed?

I think that it is more likely that a seller got a lot of ponies that included this one- and think it unlikely that she will be released again.

I thought too when I ordered they would say they ran out- but no-  the order was filled with no problem, despite some delays.  They popped up a few weeks ago too, which makes me think a few more may resurface again.

I am glad to hear that those early-released ponies were in fact different in a few ways from the SDCC pony- and can't wait to find out if the few available now/recently are of the earlier issue- or of the SDCC issue (considering the frequency with which Taobao sellers recycle pics, it is hard to say)

I think they made the eyes huge because she's known for her eyes, but decided to change them later (or were told to). Protopone looks a bit like an alien to me!

Her eyes do look too big on the prototype/pilot.   I'm glad they fixed that-  but of course I want her to be the prototype version since I have the SDCC one already.  I love how easy it is to get EPs these days-

If she turns out to be identical to the SDCC pony, I will be sorely disappointed but figure I can always find a new home for her on the board (hopefully)

I ca confirm that the prototype version that appeared on taobao back in like March time does have much bigger eyes then the original release She also has two toned yellow hair which the later release doesn't have. I'm at work right now so can't take a picture, but here's one i have taken before and you can at least see the size difference with the eyes.

But also don't forget that there is a second prototype version which has regular eyes and one color hair, but her bubbles are a different shade of blue.  I can't remember which one is darker, the prototype or the final pony, but there is a difference.  So there are three different versions of her out there.
