Has anyone here ever made their own BJD doll?
« on: December 10, 2012, 07:44:39 AM »
If so, I wanna see pictures and I'm all ears for any and all advice you have. I'm mentally preparing to make my first BJD next year and I'm looking for instruction and inspiration! :frolic:

And yes, I'm very aware that I'd get a Lot more responses over at DoA...... I just like it better here. XD

Not me, I haven't even tried a faceup yet.  :silly:  I can't wait to see what you make though, you are so crazy to even take it on.  :D  But I bet that it will be a gorgeous doll.

I know, right? I must be insane!! But, I'm very excited having found a very local shop that will teach me the molding and casting process as soon as I am ready to start. Got my first demo just yesterday! I wasn't seriously considering trying to make my own dolls for at least another year or two, but I feel like I have a golden opportunity in front of me and I want to take full advantage of the situation.
But, I am gonna start nice and slow with a simple and small BJD 'Moogle' and take it from there. I'm just boggled at how cool casting and molding is! I want to make my own dollies more than ever now!! :frolic:

Let me just state for the record that I hate, hate, hate my current stupid, stupid plan with its limited shared minutes!!!!! Rawrrrr!!!! It seriously makes me want to reconsider a stupid-o land line. Just sose I can talk to my friends when I WANNA!! *sigh*

Anyhoo, I told you ages ago that I wanted to make my own dolls, yah? Just a nice pipe-dream, really. But, the whole local educational opportunity literally popped up on Saturday afternoon. Talk about pleasant surprises! It's just gotten me excited at the possibilities. We'll see if anything ever comes of it, but for now this is me -------> :frolic: ...Um, well, no that's not enough..

How 'bout  :cheese: :bacon: :carrot: :cuke: :broc: :pineapple: :apple:  :straw: :choc:

Dancing Chocolate bar?! Okay, that's too funny! XD

Good luck!  There are a few I know of, Daisy Days is one who has done dolls and animals.  But remember to be careful when working with resin if that's the medium you choose.  It can be dangrous if you don't take the proper procautions.

Yeah, a good respirator will be the first thing I invest in when I finally start working with casting. ;) Thanks.

3D printing? I was looking at 3D printers not long ago thinking it might make a solid investment around here, but I'm not interested in the modeling aspect. XD

I have two BJD's in the making, a 40cm girl doll and a four legged dog. All I can say is that the master version takes huge amount of work! I chose to make my dolls out of Apoxie as I want the master versions to be durable. Needless to say dolls of this size eat up Apoxie great amounts. And the sanding, oh boy the sanding x_X! Just when you think some part is ready you notice something that doesn't look like you wanted and off you go sanding, again.

I also have done some tests with resin, casting small test pieces and trying to figure out how to get the smallest amount of bubbles without a pressure pot.
