My Horse Renny is close to having her baby! on Foal watch

Did you buy her knowing she might be in foal or was that also a surprise? At 25 her previous owners may have assumed that she'd not even get in foal due to her age. Did your vet say there's any sign of her having foaled before?

If the foal is too big for her then your vet should be able to induce her and help pull, there's always the risk that you may lose one or the other, unfortunately. Your photos and posts say that she's skinny and generally been in crap condition, if she's taking longer to foal she's probably taken that much longer to 'grow' the foal, owing to a lack of nutrition to draw from when you first got her as well.

My mare had minimal signs and foaled a bit early, I've known/seen mares go a month and a half over with no problems with their eventual foals. Heck, Renny may even be waiting for the weather to be a bit nicer so that Small-Renny doesn't have to be cold!

nah i had no idea til a few months in that she was preggo   then on top of that even until 2 months ago i had 3 different vets run test and palpation. etc  and all said not pregnant.     then finally i had a local breeder run a test and check her out and finally got the yes confirmation.  finally!!!    its been quite the saga lol.   i thought i was nuts for a long time.

If she was bred right before you got her she could have a month to go yet. Hopefully she's just not that far along and its not that she has a too-big foal, even though the closer she was bred to when you got her the more it burns our fuses that they did that.

lovesbabysquirmy,  thats actually exactly what i think happened.  they didnt care because she wasnt their "problem" anymore.   probably got careless and didnt seperate her from the studs.

the riding school i learnt to ride at bought thier horses from fairs and almost all, if not all the mares they ever bought would foal 12 months later. the sellers wanted rid and so would ship/pen the mare with colts/stallions with out a second though.

no just larger, called vet they said all they could really do if they came out is "check her for pregnancy via palpation"   um...  i dont need to know if she is! i need to know if something is wrong. Ugh..    

she seems happy and content.  baby is still moving, lower belly towards back end is larger and fuller.

I was telling my mom about the situation and her eyes got all big when I said Renny is 25 and pregnant by a clydesdale. She hopes the baby doesn't become too big to get out safely.
