To remove or not to remove?, That is the question!
« on: December 06, 2012, 04:53:08 AM »
Should I or should I not take my starhopper out of her grubby bag?

Would this de-value her in any ways?

I wanna be able to see her and add her in with my other sparkle ponies, should I leave her in bag and hope to find one out of packing to add to my sparkle herd?

Personally I wouldn't open her. I'd try to buy a loose one to touch, and keep this one MIP to admire. She's very pretty!

Her head/body are mismatched in colour (that's why i took photo from this side, less noticable) does anyone know if this is common in MO Starhopper?

The flash shows the mismatch up really well, luckily it isn't that noticable when you actually look at her, I only realised this issue when I took photos of her.

I'd say... your pony, your decition.

When it comes to the G1's in plastic bags I personaly honestly don't care. It took me a good while to even realize they were MIP and because of that I opend a MO Baby Up, Up and Away back when I started collecting when I was around 11-12 :P I thought it was the seller who had put her in that plastic bag. Fortunatly I realized my misstake and the seller had more so I managed to get another one which is still MIP XD

Only ones I'm very carefull not to open are the ones MIB/MOC as I love the artstyle and the pony attached to it makes it look all the nicer. Not to mention there's no misstaking there that they are MOC/MIB XD

This is the reason I don´t like buying MOCs...
I´d only open it if the pony was in danger.
I only decarded a pony because the blister was in terribly shape, but I conserve the carton as (like DR says) I love G1´s artstyle and, as a piece of history, for me it deserves to be saved. In this case is a platic bag with no draws but the number of unit and the origin (wich is also stamped on the hooves)... I would save it too in case I had to open it.

A Mail Order Sparkle Pony!  Keep her MIP and buy another if you want her loose.... there aren't many MIP ones left!  The head mismatch is VERY common in G1s, it's hardly a "flaw" unless it's really severe.

I'd leave her MIP, thankfully she's easy and inexpensive to find loose. Odds are as nice, or nicer too. They are common and do turn odd colours often.
I have all but one of the sparkle ponies NM-Mint and they ran me between $2-$6 each on ebay. Even the mail orders. :) Twinkler, the last MO I'm missing loose, is the only one I have MIP, even though her bag isn't the prettiest thing, like carded ponies with the beautiful artwork, it's still pretty cool, and I know I'll find her soon enough loose.

I think you could trade her and some for a nicer star hopper out of the bag.  I would at least try to do that first.  They do exist.

It is very much your pony and your decision - so if you want to open her that's your call.

Personally however it depends on how you prefer your collection. If you are just about the pony then if I was you I would sell the MIB version and pick up a loose one [and probably a couple of other ponies] with the money you make as she is relatively easy to find.

However, of you also want the accessories she comes with then the ribbon is tough to find so you would be best trying to trade the MIB version for a complete loose version but prepare for the fact that that can take some time.

I was easily able to buy her cheaply in a condition that looked like she was fresh out of the package so I'd try to get another of her loose and keep this one in her bag. Mint in back mail order ponies are almost as rare as mint on card regular ones.

Can the bag be wiped clean, if that's the issue?

No leave her in the bag!!!  Mine is not in a bag and I am certain you could just find another one that isn't in a bag to enjoy.

Head/body mismatch is particularly common with Star Hopper, for some reason.  Not only is the color often off, but the opacity as well.

I like MOC ponies,  but in bag does nothing for me.  I've only had one mint in bag pony, and I took it out to display.  The bag just makes them harder to see, and doesn't add to them, IMHO.
