yelowing on a custom
« on: December 05, 2012, 06:46:22 AM »
So i have a custom that i made earlier in the year, i picked her up to look at her earlier and she has developed a yellow coloured mark, of a significant size,on her neck and a small yellow mark on her leg. she is a white pony so this is very noticeable, does anyone know what this is? and if so any solutions as to how to get rid of it?
i can try post a pic later.

Here are some pics, its kinda hard to see, its more noticeable in rl than in the photos.

what kind of paint and sealer was used?
I just looked at mine and some of them have a faint yellowing but it could be due to a number of things (type of paint used, type of sealer used, lighting, etc.)

However, I don;t know if there is away to correct the issue.
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

i believe on that custom it was modgepodge. I only used it on the painted areas so that dosent really explain it =/ its a bit odd. the pony was pure white to begin with. i could paint over it but the there would be a miss match of white and i dont fancy painting around her intricate sculpting.

Keeping my fingers crossed there is an easy solution ><

Is it a G3?  It could just be the base itself.  Pretty much all of the giant blanks I have are now developing yellow staining around the eyes and necks.  These are still sealed in their original bags, so no outside contamination.  Same is happening to the ones my friend has stored on the other side of the country.  Even though they're not regular G3's, I'm guessing the same product was used on the giant blanks, so the same problem could happen to a regular sized G3 right?  Do you have any pictures?

It does look very similar to what Phylliebean is talking about. It also kind of looks like a reaction to glue. Have you tried testing a spot with some PURE acetone to see if it will come off?

I had the same thing happen on a white G3, that I sealed with Modge podge, I just put it down to the age of the stuff, and went out an bought brand new bottle, and so far it hasnt happened again.

Several of my collection G3s have this sudden yellowing around their necks and sometimes in odd spots on their bodies. It seems to just be aging of some sort.

I've had this happen to two ponies I've worked on, both G3. The first one was a pink pony, and it seemed like the yellow developed where I had removed paint with acetone after I made a mistake in the design. The second one is a white pony I'm working on now, and I have no idea where the yellow came from. Fortunately, I think I'm going to be able to paint over the yellow, hopefully. Nothing I've tried has been able to remove it. If somebody else knows how, I'd LOVE to find out.

Hmm, I'v not tried acetone yet, I might try that when I get home tonight. I don't know if that is possibly what did it in the first place, I probobly had to remove some marks origionaly but I will give it a shot.
My modgepodge isn't old so I do t think it could be that.
If not I guess I will put it down to age
