They only included the magnet in the first couple years of G3. It was to operate parts of certain playsets. Or, you know, to hang your spare ponies from any magnetic surface you happen to have. =P Later ponies just have a small hole in one hoof.

Almost ALL G3's have a magnet. It was only in the last year or so (2009-2010) that they stopped putting the magnets in, when they knew the line was coming to a close and didn't plan any more playsets.
When I first bought Hidden Treasure I had too much fun making her treasure chest pop open over and over.
