Those bigger hair plugs...
« on: November 07, 2012, 02:30:50 PM »
You know, those three of four hair plugs that are at least 3 times bigger than the normal ones. They frustrate me sooo much! >:[ No matter how much hair I put in them they never seem to stay in. The hair just comes out while I'm trying to put hair in other plugs. How do you guys deal with these suckers? Any help is much appreciated! I use a rehairing tool btw if that makes a difference :P Thanks so much in advance!

if i cant get the hair to stay in (presuming your using the tool) i just put 2 or 3 plugs in the same one, one after another

another way i have done it is using the know method. Knot your hair at one end, dip it in glue wait for it to dry then thread it though from the inside out, i usually use a piece of thin wire to do it.

I will usually put two plugs worth of hair onto my tool (if I can) and insert it into the plug that way. If that doesn't work, or still doesn't seem like enough, I put another plug it after that (or one after another, as jelzar suggested). As long as I'm careful and don't pull on the hair until I'm sure there's enough in the plug, I don't have an issue.

also do you glue the hair inside the head when when your done? because if you don't it would be a good idea, as it will help them all stick nice and tight

Thanks for the advice! So I guess I'll just keep sticking hair in there xD
And yes I do glue it! No worries ^^

I've yet to finish a reroot personally, and didn't get to any bigger holes on the one I have in progress, but I did notice, when boiling a dehaired pony head, that the plug holes shrunk. So maybe try boiling?

Although, it might turn out to be more trouble than it's worth; if I remember correctly, the smallest holes on the one I boiled actually closed up, and I had to poke them back out with a tack.

Griffindor: that's a good idea! Maybe I'll try that some time too :) i wonder if they stay shrunken though or if they expand again?

Rybett: that is the Grade A question! Haha :P

The head I mentioned in my previous post was boiled about a year ago, and the holes are still shrunken. Although, that's without any hair in them, they might re-expand when they're filled with hair.
